Oh I've already seen that one today, with it's general 'and it was completely fine' vibe. In fairness, the majority of the replies are people telling them not to be an idiot

Didn't some parts of the country have communal stand pipes in 1976?

I'm not being dramatic to say there'd be riots, selfishness and absolute chaos when they eventually have to do it somewhere in the UK in the future.

Yes there were stand pipes. Fortunately ok where I was so didn't have to go through that. I remember the heat and lack of rain though not sure the humidity was as bad or extreme as we get now. Mind I'm 50 years older so probably more aware of the discomfort.

If there is going to be one, water will be the next great resource war.

And likely the last great one, too.

Isn't it amazing that there's a very good chance that you've drank water that has been peed out by a blue whale.

... which in turn, countless billions of years ago, was hydrogen and oxygen atoms shat out by cyanobacteria.

Isn't life wonderful.

Screwfix sell an 18 inch floor standing fan. It’s amazing and if you can direct it at you in the night it makes sleeping in this heat bearable.

I bought a good £80 tower fan from John Lewis a few years back. Absolutely life saver sleeping with it in the heatwaves. Britain isn't a cold country these days, definitely need to start investing in stuff like this.

Never thought I'd be jealous of people living in Glasgow.

Every time we have a heatwave I look at Stornoway at about 18c and say to my wife I wish we had a place up there.

When you breathe out, you emit more particles in one breathe, than there are breathes of air in our atmosphere. So as these particles mix you are definitely breathing in previously exhaled particles in every single breathe you take.

Absolutely sick of hearing about 1976 from boomers

Many seem to think it’s a badge of honour that means they can scoff at what we are seeing now. It was clearly a fluke at the time where it didn’t even reach temperatures as high as we see now as well as now being more and more regular and earlier/for longer.

Why anyone would scoff as they are 50 years older and probably suffering more than they did back in 1976 is very strange. I know I coped better then rather than now
