Because he has 0 awareness, can’t take the ball on the turn, doesn’t have a good first touch, among thousands of other things 

 

Being a holding midfielder isn’t just about being big and being able to tackle

I think putting him in midfield give us  double options he's shown he can go forward, putting in front of defence gives us opportunity to stop the opposition earlier, but if he doesn't, still another line of defence, which hopefully includes a better CB than he is 😂

The worry I have - is that he'll think it does.  I'm a big believer in confidence - but it seems to backfire when it's him.

Fvcking hell I literally just did a content search to come and post pretty much exactly what you've said.
