Leicester City 'close' to making £7.8m January signing
Latest Leicester City transfer news as City reportedly eye up a new goalkeeper in the January transfer window

Leicester City are reportedly "close" to signing Spezia goalkeeper Bartłomiej Drągowski.

Drągowski, 25, only joined the Italian side this summer on a three-year deal from Fiorentina. He has been number one for Luca Gotti's side and has kept one clean sheet.

City sold their long-standing goalkeeper, Kasper Schmeichel, in the summer to French side OGC Nice and opted to stick with Danny Ward for the 2022/23 season. Ward has encountered a difficult start, conceding 22 goals and only recently earned his first clean sheet.

However, according to Polish journalist Jakub Krupa, Drągowski is "close to joining" Brendan Rodgers' side in the January transfer window. It's believed to be a move worth around €8-9 million (€9m is around £7.8m).

The two-time Poland international has spent a large part of his playing career in Italy after signing for Fiorentina from Jagiellonia Bialystok. After originally being second choice behind Ciprian Tatarusanu, Drągowski spent a season with Empoli before becoming first choice at Stadio Artemio Franchi.

He made 36 league appearances last season, but the loan signing of Pierluigi Gollini resulted in him leaving the club in the summer. He was in the recent Poland national squad, but faces tough competition from Juventus stopper Wojciech Szczesny.

Was set to sign for Southampton in the summer but they pulled out when the new head of recruitment got Bazanu for them....

article from 2016

He would have been on everyones radar back in 2016.

I'd say now it's more down to the fact Martin had him all but signed at Southampton but his replacement got Bazanu instead (cheaper and no work permit issues)

This looks like a Martyn Glover deal as southampton tried to sign this goalie when he was there. Not inspiring me though.

I'd imagine they see him as a cheap short term replacement for Danny Ward.

Got a feeling we will see another new number 1 in the summer with both the current keepers being moved on.

Tbf I think Bazunu has the potential be one of the best keepers in the league at some point over the next 15 years so it’s probably fair enough from a Southampton perspective.

Probably get £4m + sell on clause for Iversen. Wouldn't be surprised to see that happen if we get a keeper in, rather than Ward be the one to be moved on sadly.

Yeah I certainly wasn't criticising the decision, meant more that it's clear Glover wants him so he's brought that idea here too.

We should have signed Spezia’s keeper from last year. Phenomenal player who’s doing more of the same this year for Lazio.

we are such a banter club. Why wouldnt we give Iversen a shot.

This isnt a ben Hamer, "he might be good because we havent seen him". This is a guy who weve groomed for years as kaspers successor and went out on loan and smashed it, progressing just how we hoped. But because our clown of a manager made a comment about Ward being a number 1, he's too stubborn to switch it up.

If iverson leaves without playing a prem game, we will always wonder what if. The guy is kasper regenerated on fifa ffs

Rodgers isn't convinced by Iversen if you read between the lines.
