How though?

Started in various films alongside Denzel Washington, Gal Gadot, Samuel L Jackson, The Rock, Hugh Jackman, Will Ferrell, Salma Hayek, Jake Gyllenhall, Kevin Costner, Gary Oldman, Tommy Lee Jones, Helen Mirren, Ben Kingsley.

Has plenty of recent films where he's the lead star and currently one of the biggest box office draws out there thanks to his work on Deadpool, Free Guy and various Netflix films like Red Notice and Hitmans Bodyguard.

Personally not on the Wrexham love in. It’s akin to Newcastle but lower leagues. A nonsense red card as well, so happy Blades got that leveller

They've been paying a few players Football League wages to drop down and play for them. They already have pretty much a decent League 2 side, so if they go up I think they'll be competitive as well.

They’d be mid range of League 1 IMO. Mullin should be testing himself in the Championship btw.

Isn’t there another famous actor involved too ?

Rob mcelheney I think is just so funny, and very talented, created the longest running sitcom in TV history and also created and stars in a very good show on apple TV called mythic quest. Funny man.

I think the club's wage bill is higher than some league one clubs. They heavily rely on a lot of money from Disney + for the series, to pay for all this. You do ask how long would stick at Wrexham especially if say four years day the line their still in the national league.

Me either! ;)

A wee bit frustrating that we are having such a strong season, but we've got team Hollywood to deal with.

Extra matches for them to play is always good though.

I agree, especially the sycophantic nature of the media towards them. It’s like they’ve only just realised there is a national league. However, at least they don’t chop the heads off of people to stifle free speech.

I think this tweet summarises a lot of football in the media. And as time gone on, it’s gone away from the wholesome stories to where the click and audience is. The audience of football has changed - well the audience of TV football has changed

Yea it’s certainly apparent. The TV audience thing is interesting. It may have been in When Saturday Comes a few years back, but there was an article about how youngsters liked to watched la liga via a stream on a Saturday, instead of watching their local team(in this case it was Sunderland, but they cited other football league examples too). They said it was down to price, which I could sort of believe, but they also said something along the lines of the FIFA football game being prominent and every knows LaLiga, instead of the championship and below. This morning(I am training/working in building conservation/heritage) I read an old article from the 90s that was looking at how to get youngsters interested in industrial heritage. Effectively there was no idea of how to do this, except they made jokes about video games and flashing lights. I really fear we are at that level where the local football team is that industrial past to an extent.

I was planning on checking out the Disney+ series on Wrexham and was looking at the National League table and setup. I always wondered why there was North and South leagues and then a main National League.

Jeez that setup looks hard to get out of. The North/South leagues feed into thr main league, and then only one permanent promotion spot is available, with 2nd-7th have to go through playoffs. Though 2nd and 3rd automatically getting a bye to the semis.

To be fair the series is very good (bar one bizarre episode) because it appears they actually do get what football means to a town.

It's more the media idolisation of it all - Wrexham have always been a well supported club for their size and a really proper fanbase with it

Their hooligan scene is quite interesting. Breaks the usual mould in that it's left leaning.

Is there any version of FFP in non-league, or is it just a matter of "try to stay afloat"?

Several years ago, the jacket blurb from The Club made this point beautifully.

"The extraordinary profit of bringing England's aging industrial towns to global attention has come at a cost.  Today, as players are sold for hundreds of millions and clubs are valued in the billions, local fans are being priced out - and the clubs' local identities are fading.  The Premier League has become the classic business fable for our globalized world."

An outstanding book, IMO, written just as much to entertain as to inform.  If you haven't read it, consider finding or borrowing it.

No nothing outside the Football League as far as I'm aware.

Thank you for the recommendation. It’s on order.
