Can't wait for him to clatter out Barnes again and VAR turn a blind eye

The fact we have Man City next just shows how important these recent points were

Or we were always going to beat the bottom teams and struggle against top half and middle teams…

My feeling with Man C is that you have to put pressure on them, sitting back & letting them come at you will only delay the inevitable !!

Barnes, Daka & Vardy will give them problems if we can move the ball quickly against them.

They have incredible talent up front but are lacking on the defensive side of things.

We use to get results against the top 6, but fail against the lower teams...

I prefer it where we get those mixed bag of results...we then have a top season..

The way it's going I wouldn't even put it past us.

I think we have to bear in mind that Rodgers’ dogmatic style means we let every opponent shoot 1x times per match.

Forest, Leeds and Wolves’ strikers are shit— cannot even hit the target or always shoot straight at Wardy.

But Haaland? Foden? LoL

Bound to lose big if we continue to be dogmatic

You're forgetting Rodgers juju here though. If anything could stop Haaland it's that.

Result wise we are good recently, but still performance is not good enough. Simply had better shooting than our opponents. Score improbable goals

It's a balancing act, and tbh I don't know where the line is. I don't like sitting deep and inviting pressure against any team, so that high defensive press does seem to be the way go, play the game if not in the opponent's half then at least higher up the pitch, but Man City play a different game.

Man City control and change the pace of a game so well, they have individual players of quality, and as a team their running off the ball is creative; they always seem to have a man, and a pass, available. Haarland is reaping the rewards and obviously a class act in his own right.

I think you have to accept that you will not have the possession nor territory advantage against them, that they will control the game and make very few mistakes. They do have off days and of course they can be frustrated, thwarted and slowed but rarely do you see them negated. They've been beaten by a sucker punch (or defensive howler) and resolute defending.

I've no idea how you go about beating them but I don't feel going toe-to-toe is not the answer. Their quality will do fo you. I feel you need to accept you're going to spend most of the match in your own half, try to shut down space, watch the runs, be dynamic essentially and then capitalise on your own possession and their mistakes. You have to work hard to do it, it takes belief and commitment to what must feel like a lost cause at times.

Having secured a decent haul of points from the Palace, Leeds and Wolves games we can now play this with a little more freedom. That's exactly what I want to see us do - we've always been capable of scoring against any opposition (2 at Arsenal, 2 at Spurs etc) and it's our defence that has held us back. Man City are frightening going forward but we can hurt them at the back - we've done it before. It's our first seriously tough test to see where we're at under Rodgers.

Don't get me wrong, I still expect a defeat but we've got our tails up a little bit for the first time in months, and the likes of Daka, Barnes, and Maddison have all shown some good goal scoring form. I want to see a set-up that plays to those strengths and promotes stability and consistency in personnel in defence. Do that, and with a slice of fortune, we might be able to do something here.
