I had seen that thread and guessed some smart arse might use it to take the piss.  I have no proof but I thought of you.....probably cus you made a drug ha ha on me  the other day.  Reassures me that my speculations can have a logical base though

Thoughts, no need for apologies. I dont think I was but crack and marijuana fumes do often enter my room. Not so reassured in my thought processes now... thanks a lot tom.....

I doubt it too but the squad is capable of picking up form, the question is if we do, who of the front runners might drop off?

What with that over dramatic relegation thread, deserves a bit of balance.

I hate to disappoint.

It's possible, but unlikely. I don't think any of the 'big 6' are within reach and Newcastle are riding a crest of positivity and momentum like we were back in 2015.

Comfortable mid-table this season, ensure we get our recruitment right over the next over the next 2 windows and have a proper tilt at it next year.

This seems like a strange season. In recent seasons there have been one or two clubs that you know will struggle and occupy the relegation places all season. This season it seems like six or so clubs will be better than everyone else, but the rest are varying degrees of average. We have to try and be at the top end of those average clubs rather than at the bottom. I fear one established club will fall this season.

Given the start we made I still think that finishing 14th or below is far more likely than finishing 10th or above. Liverpool will improve and Newcastle and Brighton are looking to replace us and West Ham as the most likely disruptors to the greedy six.

Ultimately I just want to stay up this season after how we started and all the issues around signing new players. Given where we were just a few weeks ago 10th-14th would be great. Anything above 10th and I will probably be re-joining the "Brendan in" brigade.

Depends which LCFC returns after the WC, in the last 7 games we have averaged 1.85 points per game.

In the unlikely event we keep that up we are looking at around 58 pts at the end of the season, which would get you some form of European football.

More likely that will drop as it probably not unsustainable.

1.5 pts per game form here would be 50 points probably enough for somewhere round 8th to 10th.

1.3 pts per game would see us get 45 pts.

Our Current overall of 1 pts per game see us hit 38pts.

I doubt it too but I looked back 50 pages and saw no dedicated european qualification thread for this season.....

Assuming Chelsea and Liverpool pick up and casually writing off Brighton and Fulham......

Newcastle and Man U would be our targets.

A double over Newcastle and we are just 6 points behind them.

Mathamatically any team below 10th, even Forest, could do it.

Realistically,

Could we turn it around become the best of the rest?

Just how good are Newcastle and Man U?

Playing well and beating Everton today would give me some hope

I was told I was being over the top about us being in a relegation battle… if that was over the top, what the hell is this? 😂

Not a prayer. You cant throw the first 7 games and get there. Newcastle's ascent really is bad for us.

Agree about Newcastle. The rich 6 usually had the european places taken with one spot up for grabs between the rest. Now that one might be in jeopardy.

It's a bit depressing. It's quickly gonna become a big 7 because they're at virtually no risk of losing their key players. They've played this last year about as well as they could've done. I was really hoping they'd have an Everton / Villa phase but they've bypassed it annoyingly well. At least with it being big 6 you always had an outsider getting into Europe and that's now likely gone. I don't see any way we finish above 8th.

I think our best chance of European qualification is the League Cup this year. With the World Cup being where it is, and the resulting fixture congestion, I think the "bigger" clubs will be playing their reserves until at least the semifinals.

A bit like the F.A cup then?

Still think that?

Saturdays result was a massive boost to us but I still think there's a lot of things that can change.

The WC for a start -  injuries, fitness etc, although that will apply to all clubs.

Wolves have a new manager that might change their fortunes and Villas appointment will see them in the top half imo.

We've definitely become less of a soft touch and I fancy us to score in most games ,so I should be more positive, I suppose.

It's probably the 40+ years of supporting them that's my downfall 😄😄

One game at a time. Got some tough matches coming up:

West Ham (A)

Newcastle (H)

Liverpool (A)

Need to focus on pulling away from the relegation zone. Besides, as the above posters have said, it is incredibly hard to finish in the European places if you effectively throw the first seven games.

Actually, if you compare our start to other sides who fared similar in the opening stages, I am pretty sure Palace record the highest finish (14th).

Might sound negative, but a season of stability and a go at the league cup would do me.

We are going to have to be in some seriously good form for the rest of the season if we are going to make top 6/7. I mean 2019 pre-christmas form. Our re-start after the world cup could end hopes very quickly.

However, it be great if we end a season as the team chasing (and succeeding) for once. Rather than the one being chased.

If we do it, bloody hell....

When you think about it, it is somewhat frustrating.

I am sure that pretty much every side could point to this, but us accumulating one point from Brentford, Southampton, United and Bournemouth was pathetic.

Even if we had got five or six, which easily should have been achievable - we could have been sat in 6th/7th.

Fulham are a prime example. It feels like they have occupied the 6th-9th place all season, and I really don’t think that they are that good at all.

They will probably fall away, but still, we should be so much higher.

Low Bar 17th, High Bar 8th or 9th, probably 9th-11th (we need the money of the places!!)..

Stay Up, get rid of the contracts that we want out, presume Youri goes, can we get Madders to stay (don't know).

There is a massive job next summer, almost like a new team, bit scary really if we make a few mistakes on recruitment, in fact a decent chance we'll have as many new players as Forest!!

Going - Bertrand, Vestergaard, Cags, Hamza, possibly Mendy, Tielemens, (maybe Madders), Perez, Vardy needs replacing (though he'll stay the year), don't know on Nach's contract.

So we'll probably have a keeper as he has turned the corner, full backs, Wout, Soumare & Wilf (though he's gone of the boil, big time), Barnes, Daka.

Quicker we know we are staying up, more time they can be strategic and early on the signings!!!

Have to say, last month has been brilliant, Forest get battered, suddenly repeatedly stopped conceding goals & at corners AND 2 brilliant performances at Wolves and Goodison, with worldies by Youri, absolutely loved the trips, Sat was brill!!  Lets do the Hammers Sat as well as they are looking well ropey.

And be sitting pretty for 6 weeks before two tough games end of Dec.

The thing about Newcastle is that the Big 6 hate them in a way they don't hate teams like us, Everton, and West Ham. They have accepted what Man City did, because no one was sure about what was going on. I remember after we won the league, there was the famous "We don't want too many Leicesters to happen" line. Newcastle is trying to buy itself into a very exclusive club, and the other members don't like it: Every time a Saudi government minister refers to the team as "ours", every time there is a huge human rights issue in Saudi Arabia in the news, there is going to be pressure on the UK government and the Premier League to force them to sell. I can't see the Saudi ownership lasting for the next five years.

Shameless self-promotion: I am hosting a pub quiz at the 1852 Brewery Co. in Wigston on Sunday Nov. 13 at 8pm. C'mon down.

The best chance of European football is to win a cup (Carabao Cup likely). Get 40 something points in the league to ensure we are safe but realistically, we aren't getting close to Top 7 without going on a mad run, or keeping recent 6/7 game form until the last match. Even if we got 7th, doesn't mean it qualifies for Europe.

true, the scenario depends on more than us becoming a good team again....though that part is promising.

So Chelsea finishing 10th but Chillwell netting a winner in the FA cup final vs Man City robs our 7th place Euro spot, FFS

Does the Maguire winner in the League cup against Arsenal give 8th place Man U our 6th place European spot or do we get to keep it?
