There's deffo still one 'wildcard' even with Madders in now that he's sacked off more than people were expecting.

Lots of chatter it'll be a random left back like Mitchell. More likely be Connor Gallagher though.

The wildcard more likely someone whose likely one for the future. They won't likely play but going just for the experience. Maybe someone like Jacob Ramsey even though it's probably a tournament too soon.

It's finally Joe Mattock's time!

Confirmed squad

Surprised with Gallagher and Phillips. Especially the latter given his lack of football for 2-3 months.

same with Walker, how fit is he going to actually be?!

Phillips has played how much football?

Dunno how Gallagher and Sterling are in as well.

Sterling always performs well for England, Gallagher is a bit of a wild one but you can understand it, Phillips has hardly kicked a ball.

40 minutes last night! i think that's about it.

Surely, he is just a backup for Rice though?

Kyle Walker isn't even training currently; can only think he has been named with the latter parts of the tournament in mind.

Tomori robbed too. Maguire and Dierlol

Would have took Tomori and Smalling instead, then I would say we have a chance.. but not with these two clowns leading the back line

I don't like injured players going and considering 2 of them are his most favoured players they will be shoehorned in even if half fit.

Glad Maddison is going though he'll be over the moon.

Wasn't Sterling rubbish before the EURO's and then suddenly he was one of the best performers for England? Sometimes club and country (or even two different clubs) can be totally different.

Don't think he starts mind. England have an amazing attack, probably one of the best in the world. Will the tactics and defense win the title though, that is the question.

I actually quite like that from Southgate.

The big decisions were IMO:

Maguire or Tomori or Mings? - got that wrong maybe, there's an argument for Tomori, but there is the issue of continuity and leadership, and Maguire often both and plus he often plays OK for England.

Maddison or Grealish? - well, he took them both, which is the right decision IMO. Can't see who has missed out to accommodate them both, so they can't bethat much of a miss?

Wilson or Toney or DCL or Abraham - Had to be Wilson or Toney for me, and I would have just swung towards Wilson too.

- on-form Kieran Trippier a solid replacement for Reece James

- Phillips, OK not a great pick, but who do you take instead? Ward-Prowse? What's the point?

Mainly pretty predictable with some in form players being selected and of course those who have been injured !

Toney probably missed out due to his off field issues that have cropped up .

All to lose in the last 8 or something .

Certainly the timing of the tournament and location of it has dampened the excitement usually felt leading up to a tournament.

Are England the only nation without any pre-tournament friendlies?

Just checked BBC site and noticed several other nations have friendlies on Wednesday/Thursday/Friday next week.

Maguire always plays better for England, as does Pickford, tbf as well.
