I wasn't too fussed about watching the England games but I'll have to watch now to see if Madders gets on for the last 5 mins.

I'd like to see something similar to this.

Not too sure about the defence, but that midfield would be great.

Same for me but swap Foden and Saka and maybe White over Dier, far too attacking for Southgate though.

Southgate will go with us 523 formation which makes it difficult for Maddison to get in. Leaves us with no control in midfield but Southgate will argue it's kind of worked for him.

Find it funny how people online say he should be sacked for naming this team 😆 I mean okay he's not clever but sacking someone before a tournament is not clever thing to do.

The way you post weird Chinese whispers as if it's the consensus of loads of people is one of my favourite Foxestalk tropes

Having watched MotD tonight, having seen Toney come straight back into a side and get a brace... and yet not in the squad and Rashford is... how?

Not saying Rashford is a bad player, but form-wise, right now they are poles apart.

Rashford has got a few as well to be fair.

Think Southgate sees him as another option for a wide forward role whereas he only wanted to take one back up to Kane.

Rashford can play wide as well. Toney would just be a squad filler as Kane will play every game and Wilson is second choice.

Maguire will start - in the England shirt he is a much better player, and this is his last chance - point to prove and Southgate's backing he will be fine.

He's supposed to be fit, but he still can't get a game.  He's played by far the fewest league minutes of any United defender except Wan-Bissaka.  Ten Hag started Lindelof ahead of him today.

Y'all really want Southgate to start a Slabhead covered in rust?!

James Maddison was presented with his England World Cup shirt by Prince William as his World Cup experience continues.

The Foxes midfielder has been one of the Premier League’ standout performers this term, continuing his form from the previous campaign. Maddison has scored seven league goals and provided four assists across 13 league games for Brendan Rodgers’ side, leading to overwhelming calls from fans and pundits for him to be included in Gareth Southgate’s squad.

The 25-year-old collected his sole Three Lions cap in 2019 but was surprisingly selected by Southgate for the tournament after the manager had seemed reluctant to do so for several years. He survived a late injury scare against West Ham at the weekend and met up with the rest of the England squad at St. George’s Park, where he was greeted by royalty.

Maddison was handed the number 25 shirt for the tournament, losing out on the number 10 he usually wears for City to Raheem Sterling. However, Southgate then explained that the squad would be presented with their shirts by the Prince of Wales.

Prince William posed for photos with each player individually, as well as together with the squad, giving Maddison a moment to remember before heading out to Qatar. William, who is president of the FA, had a message for Southgate’s side before leaving their Burton-upon-Trent base: “We are all rooting for you. Enjoy it.”

The squad have now left the FA’s headquarters in order to fly out to Qatar from Birmingham. England will play their opening game of the tournament against Iran at 1pm on Monday, November 21. The Three Lions will also face USA (November 25) and Wales (November 29) during the group stage.
