Well that is true. Sounds good. We do appear to be playing more compact. So let’s see. Hope you’re right. Hate losing to the Hammers.

Can kind of see the logic behind that but I think we need KDH to press them, they aren't comfortable when they are pressed.

He is and he does 

 

but I wouldn’t have him at FB - it’s a specialist position - too many on here don’t necessarily appreciate the nuances. Players like Milner are extremely experienced - you rarely see an inexperienced player asked to fill in at full back.

We really owe this lot one after the last couple of seasons. Absolutely need to match them physically and defend well against their phalanx of giants at set pieces. We will certainly miss JJ's pace when they inevitably hit long balls and seek to do us on the counter.

One of the reasons he has lost weight was he was told he needed to for health reasons. He has a gastric band hence the weight Loss.

I think we probably do …..  based on last weekend, they have 2  (rice and paqueta) and we have 6

Maddison?

“It’s wonderful news for James and his family. I’m delighted for Gareth to have that talent available. His level and consistency and his work ethic, and what he has proven over this last year, he’s shown he’s one of the best players in the Premier League. Credit to him and his team-mates, he wouldn’t be able to get there without them.”
 

Prove point?

“Not really. He wanted to improve for himself. He wants to be the best he can be. I spoke to him this morning anticipating either way, I was reinforcing about the next World Cup. He’s got that mentality to do that. It’s great news for him.”
 

What managers can do with patience?

“There’s a real witch hunt for managers to lose their jobs now and I don’t see that changing too much. I don’t see that changing. It feels like you can’t have a downturn as a manager without calls for change. I don’t think because of the media coverage and social media, it will change, but it takes a lot of strength. There’s no mystery, our results were not good enough. We have had better results and now we’re looking to finish off how we’ve been playing over recent weeks.”
 

Difficult staying in top six?

“Yes. The level of financial clout is huge. We’ve had a couple of fifth places. We will always look to finish as high as we can. It’s been a tough start for us. West Ham have had to introduce a lot of new players, they’ve lost a key player in Noble. There are some players in natural decline and that happens to all players, and then you have European football on top of that, so it doesn’t surprise me, some of the results they’ve had. But David Moyes is a top manager.”

“He had a missed call from Gareth just before training. I said to him to pop into my office and make the call. He spoke to him and then came out full of joy of the world. It was a great moment."

“We’ve been planning for months. Sadly there are players who can’t play because of injuries, missing out on a dream moment. We’ve known what the break would look like. We have prepared as normal.”
 

West Ham?

“We’ll just attack the game how we have recently. We’ve been scoring goals away from home. We’re hard to beat, which is important. They’re a good side, with some really good players. We showed at Wolves and Everton that we can play well. We will be aggressive."

 

Break?

“It’s a nice chance to reflect and look back on this part of the season. It’s about moving forward as well. The team is in a good place. They’ve got a good focus and we have exciting games to look forward to when we get back. There’s work to be done.”
 

Look in the mirror?

“I’ve said before, it’s easy when you’re winning. The true test is when you’re not. What’s important is that you lead the team and lead the club. For me, it’s natural, there’s no other way around it. I knew the issues, and I knew the talent we had. It was about bringing it together, getting that work ethic. It was a matter of time. I’ve never lacked in resilience. I’m not a shouter, I’ve got my own way, but my emotion is around wanting the best for the club and the people here. It’s been a challenge, but that’s what you want.”

“Personality, honesty, enthusiasm, passion. He’s an all-round good man. He’ll will the players on and will be ready to impact games. England have a top player who has been in form and has developed his game. This is a man who has shown resilience to keep fighting and now he’s in the squad, it won’t stop.”

“Sadly, he’ll have an operation tonight. He’s ruptured his Achilles. A huge disappointment. He probably would have been close to Gareth’s plans. We’re hugely disappointed for him. We’ve lost two top players to that. It will probably put him out for most of the season. We wish him a speedy recovery.”
 

Bertrand?

“I think a bit of time away. I’ve got no immediate plans for Ryan. We’ll see how he goes.”

 

Injuries?

“Every one is fine. Jonny got through ok. Wilf got through most of the game.”

 

What Maddison brings that England don’t have?

“What he’s developed, but he’s played all across the frontline and midfield and plays it to a really high level. He still scores and creates from the right, making runs like a top winger. He can play on the left side. He can find space. He’s comfortable central. He sees the forward pass. That’s absolutely key. There are lots of midfielders who can conserve the ball, but you need players to take the risk. England have other players who are talents, but James is a really special talent who can unlock defences.”

Stick with what has been working.

That is the sensible thing to do, I think, even if I'm less than enthusiastic about Thomas having a run in the team.

If JJ has to have a long term injury, I guess from our point of view we aren't playing until boxing day again after this. 

 

I hope Brendan doesn't have a brain fart and try and reinvent the wheel. Same system, just Thomas in for Justin I'm a back 4. Amartey deserves to keep his place for now.

The only alternative I can see whilst maintaining the shape (vaguely) is Timmy to LB and Sharkey to RB, but Castagne is just not as effective at LB

(Understandably) I’ve got a feeling Madders may ask not to play, or only play a part of the game. He will see what’s just happened to JJ and won’t want to ruin his chances of going to the WC.

 

Potentially that might be the case for others in the squad too. Obviously West Ham players will also be in the same boat…full time 0-0 written all over it!
