In the hope that we stay up, I find myself thinking fairly positively towards next season! We will have to have big clear out, contracts ending etc. I think the club will be forced and maybe able to spend fairly well in the summer freshening things up as  we are so stale at the minute. It could be the start of a reset and being able to push towards them European places again!

So much change at once might not be all good. Banking on all the replacements coming in being of good enough standard to challenge again.

Rodgers has undone shitloads of anything that was built up. And that in itself could take a good few years to recover from.

Will be good to get rid of the deadwood and half-arsed players that we currently have.

Relegation is not an option and totally avoidable if we act now. I cannot comprehend how badly things have deteriorated in such a short period. Its just madness.

we don't know if we will be in the Premier League or the Championship, or who the manager will be. we don't know what players will be gone and what players we have coming in. we will most likely still have Rudkin as head of recruitment.. we dont know how much the owners will be willing to spend on transfers. tooo much change at once is not good, we need stability and sustainability.

In the season we were in League Two, even though that was technically the lowest point in our history, it was actually very entertaining and somewhat cathartic. The worst season was the one we got relegated to League Two, but not the time we had when we were there.

I would hate for us to go down because we've made our mark on the Premier League. But football has become a farce. Chelsea having an even worse sugar daddy than the first one disgusts me. Look even at teams like Bournemouth... buying a team in France and then funneling players into the Premier League team. Wolves with the dodgy Mendes player merry-go-round. Newcastle owned by Saudis... Fifa hosting a Winter world cup in that hotbed of football... Qatar.

Football has been stolen from the working class that invented it. There is something purer about the lower leagues.

This is going to go down as one of the worst relegations in PL era.

Most teams that go down circle the drain, come up and can’t stay up or have 2nd season syndrome.

We’ve been in the division for 9 nears, won the PL, FA Cup and Charity Shield, along with 3 European campaigns and spending £400m+

If we go down, we've tons of players leaving on a free, a load more leaving on vastly reduced fees. The squad will be decimated.

Out of contract Summer 2023:

  • Tielemans
  • Soyuncu
  • Amartey
  • Perez
  • Mendy
  • Evans
  • Bertrand

Out of contract Summer 2024:

  • Maddison (sold this summer?)
  • Ndidi (sold this summer?)
  • Nacho (will want to leave surely?)
  • Praet (wants to leave)
  • Thomas
  • Vestergaard (we want to sell)
  • Vardy
  • Albrighton

Would players like Barnes, Castagne, Soumare, Daka want to stick around?

Right now it's looking like we can't afford to sign players or sack the manager even when we're in the Premier League - so financial outlook is surely bleaker if we're down? Loads of recent income is loans based on future PL income, so parachute payments may well be swallowed up too...

Scary when you think about it isn't it. Rarely in football is a lot of upheaval and player changes followed by immediate success. If we were able to get good fees for those above we would sell, you'd like to think we could be shrewd and get in some players that have PL experience to get back out, but as we all know it's never that simple in that league.

It doesn't matter if the structure and the personnel leading to this mess stay the same. Rodgers is the short term problem but Rudkin is the bigger problem. We have ~10 players contracted in 2025. Our player and manager recruitment has largely been awful - if this fraud has the keys to the football operations we'll be a Championship club.

I actually think it is a summer of big change too, but for all the wrong reasons. We don't even have the backbone of a good team anymore. The only two players of European quality, Maddison and Tielemans, will likely be gone. Ricardo just can't stay fit, and our young prospects like Barnes, KDH and Thomas, seem to have either stalled or are going backwards in development. The rest of the squad are either woefully out of form or can't stay fit.

We have a Manager that I don't think really wants to be here anymore, and shouldn't be! We also have an owner that is failing to take decisive decisions or support the club financially in the transfer market, whether down to him or handling FFP poorly. Huge loans that seem to be covered by Premier League TV money.

So in summary, we will likely require a new manager (a bloody good one!), a whole new starting 11 backbone (and more!) and somehow do all this on a budget and whilst trying to stay in the league, so that we can continue to cover our debts with TV money.

I love your optimism, but the reality is, we will need a lot of things to go our way if we are even to stay a Premier League team in the short to medium term.

I enjoyed it. I actually got to see most of our home games without the need for a season ticket and kick offs weren't messed around with by Sky. Also the fans who did go, and there were plenty still, were the fans who actually wanted to support their team, rather than turning up expecting marvellous entertainment or else. Good atmosphere that season.
