He hasn’t scored 200 goals in less than 5 games in a brand new league must be awful

Weird take. Have you seen his performances? He does the same fvcking thing, outside the full back then put the ball out of play.

But to paraphrase General Melchett, that's what makes it so brilliant.

One day, a fullback will think he can't possibly try to do the same thing he's tried dozens of times before and that's when he'll put in a telling pass.

It’s moot since Brendan is never leaving, but if the club ever were to change managers, assessing the squad would be a legit challenge. So many players have regressed and underperformed under him that it’s going to be very difficult to decide who to build around and who to cut loose.

I had great hope for TETE , but watching him last game , I got the feeling he is not fast across the ground and he is not strong enough to hold of players in the premiership, I don’t think he will make it

If the manager wasn't such a proven fraud I'd be having serious concerns on Tete. I mean the concerns are growing, I can't lie, but it's funny how the longer nearly everybody spends with this manager the worse they get.

yea this is my position. dude arrived with an exciting reputation, hasn't looked great but none of the team do, is it because he's not that good or not suited to this league, or because the manager destroys all confidence in attacking players by stifling our own attack with the obsession over scoring the perfect goal

Tim vickery who for me is the most knowledgeable,  cerebral man in football, also with a specialism on Brazil living there, said when we signed him, his problem has been in his career  you need 2 balls for tete, one for him and one for everyone else.

That's not the problem at all though, he hasn't been greedy if anything he's played very safe and when he has looked to do something more forward thinking he's been easily dispossessed or taken a weak attempt at goal.

He’s clearly got great dribbling, pace, decent shot and brain he just needs someone to get the best out of him. Loads of players have been pretty shit first season in prem then settled second season

I also think our shite tactics help in either, by the time we get the ball to him he is either marked closely or has little space to work with, in the game against Villa we got the ball forward with pace and purpose and pressed them really high and he prospered , lo and behold when we play this slow, ponderous crap he struggles, when will the penny drop with some, not every player is shite, they are being stifled by awful tactics.

He said that was the impression he had when he saw him play for the Brazil U20s, not an opinion formed over his career to date. He is indeed a specialist on Brazilian football but Tete has never played a senior game in or for Brazil.

Most bizarre thing for me was when he got in decent positions saturday in the 18 yard box and then choose to try and go on the outside with his right foot - done it at least 3 times first half that I can remember- just plain weird for a bloke thats all left foot

That's suggests that he is comfortable with his right foot - good for him. One footed wingers who can only cut in and boot the ball over the bar are of little use.

Did you watch the game- every time he did it he nearly fell over and weakly kicked it out of play- that suggests his right foot is pants and so is his decision making- with that being said he is still the very least of our problems- saw enough against villa and 1st half against united to see there is a player in there but iv no idea what he was thinking saturday- poo like the rest of them

Villa's defending was atrocious so it flattered him. He is now learning on the job and it ain't easy. He will be OK I reckon but he is going to have to work very hard at it.

Was up against Walker-Peters who's naturally right footed, so was covering the cut in on his left really well.

I like the fact he's happy to go either way even if his right isn't great.

No doubt he's not played well in the last few games, but I'm pretty confident there's a player in there. Just needs a nice curler into the top corner from his left peg to get the confidence flying.

I think part of the reason he kept going down the line instead of cutting in on Saturday is that Southampton actually did a really good job of defending against him. Walker Peters got very tight to Tete every time he got the ball, and he often had another defender backing him up in close company. Of course, if we had been set out in a well balanced shape and with good tatics, this is where overlapping full backs should become a passing option, or Barnes should have had more space on the opposite wing etc, but our entire gameplan at the moment revolves around slowly playing our way into trouble in our own half, so that never materialised.

I dunno about brain and picking the right choice at the minute, that needs to be worked on, dribbling, close control and pace is all fine though.

Give him time ok

While I agree with this as a general rule - we might already be about 40% into his time at the club.

..you would assume that he has been instructed to play this way!!!

Probably think this is a way to stretch defences and create space for other attackers.

You wouldn't think with his attributes he would choose to play in this way.

I don't think you are too far off on that point bud.

On the whole Barnes has been shall we be kind and say " a little under par"  however on the rare occasions that the 'Pass it to hell BrendanBall' has been shelved and he goes for it  he looks for that short window of time such a better player.

Tete was doing much of the same against Villa and 'looked the mustard'.. A few training sessions with the dwarf and then instructed the ways of death by football and he suffers the same fate as others.

Assessing his performances in this thread has a lot of merit, but I'm hesitant to judge players after 5 matches, especially when we've got this fraud coaching the squad.

On the flip side, that what everyone has done with Kristiansen in less appearances

”captain material” etc
