Tom Lawrence was bought for about million pounds and sold to Derby for more than 5 million, reportedly, so although you could say he didn't do much on the pitch for Leicester, he turned a tidy profit. Probably made more than was collectively lost on that list of "bad" free transfers and loans, not exactly in the same ballpark as signing Slimani and Silva and then letting them go for massive losses several years later.

We did usually have to wait 45 minutes for the team to start playing, mind.

It was like an endearing idiosyncrasy whereby we'd get results in the Championship by expounding half the effort. :D

All of these years later and people still can’t see that his treatment of the media was a bit of an act?

He’s clearly not that type of person away from the cameras, as evidenced by the time he spent with Ian Stringer after his time at the club.

He used the press conferences and interviews to keep the heat off his players, and to create a constant siege mentality. Sometimes his antics were bizarre but it was truly us against the world back then and his players always fought for him.

He could have written off Leicester after the way he was let go the first time but both of his spells here were excellent and he truly enhanced the football operations at the club.

Plush, he’ll always be a legend just for giving it right back to that idiot in our stands who was hurling abuse at him in 2014.

Yep. Still can’t believe people haven’t worked it out. The whole Ostrich routine was about keeping the spotlight off the players and any bad vibes about a potential relegation.

That’s why for me he was so easy to warm to. He defended the club, he defended his players, he publicly called out referees and pundits. He was also very thankful to supporters - moments such as Huddersfield away where he greeted pitch invaders rather than ignore them. He once said thanks to me for coming after I stepped off a fox travel special from Millwall in League 1.

There’s a generation of supporters what have a very similar thing for Jock Wallace because he shared similarities when it came to siege mentality

Yep, Pearson and Walsh knew the value of the player. They were keen in Slimani whilst they were here but once the transfer fee went north of £10m they didn’t want to know.

Not a pop at you but I posted the other day and linked a thread to where people wanted Pearson out. That's why I remembered certain user names from it.

Just read the article now. Regardless on your own thoughts on NP, the man is a real character, someone who marches to the beat of his own drum.

For those not bothered to read it he's bought a woodland and is cutting down trees to build furniture and has built a path up to the top. It's a bit different to the standard buying a racehorse or investing in property that you get with a lot of successful former players / managers. He's just cut from a different cloth.

You feel he'd be totally happy in the middle of Siberia with just a log hut, a fishing rod and a machete or two.

Honest, intelligent guy

This is another reason I adore him, he doesn't talk in footballspeak. He's very candid when he gets asked the right questions not cliched nonsense

Do they? I wasn't aware of this, hand on heart.

I think it’s misconstrued by a section of our fan base that obsess over him, that people who don’t have him as their number 1 manager of all time have a problem with him.

Nigel Pearson featured in The Guardian today: https://www.theguardian.com/football/2023/feb/27/nigel-pearson-interview-bristol-city-manchester-city-woodland-mongol-rally?CMP=Share_iOSApp_Other

He comes across as a very happy man, and I’m glad Bristol City have kept faith with him - though it’s shocking that he is the third longest-serving manager in the Championship.

Still my favourite Citeh boss in over 65 years as a fan.

Ah I was wondering who the guy with a dog profile picture who loves Nigel was.

Personally I think the following article is arguably better than the article in the first post;

Nigel Pearson admits his time in charge of Bristol City has been 'really tough' | Daily Mail Online

"It's a one-off game, which should be great for the players and the fans - but they will only enjoy it if we play well"

Imagine.

Pearson is getting a lot of press recently - he was in the Torygraph last week - presumably because Brizzle City are playing Man City in the Rumbelows Cup.

He comes across in all of them as a really interesting guy, and he's also generous with his praise - in the Telegraph article he was praising Steve Walsh for the Mahrez signing, and in the Mail he praises the way Ranieri managed the PL winning team.

It's a profile picture of a dog who sadly died just before Christmas. But I loved him and I love his memory. Remind you of anything?

Honestly it is one of life's biggest mysterys why a sizeable proportion of our fanbase has a real issue with the man.

Do people really though? About 99% of our fans, including me, love him.

Tlhere's a notion on here that if you dont think he's our greatest ever manager it automatically means you hate him, which is obviously ridiculous.

Hope he gets plenty of success in the remaining years of his career, he deserves it for doing the work that most fans will never see or appreciate until years after.

Let's not forget that even though Ranieri took us to the title, Nigel signed Kante and Fuchs too.

We were going to finish top 4 had Nigel been in charge that season, I'm convinced of it. And that would have been a phenomenal achievement.

I don’t think its like that at all.

Spend some time on Bentleys, many a man don’t like him there. Plenty around the old UFS spot used to dislike the man too. Nearly caused blows on more than a few occasions.

Sorry to hear that. Nah someone in another thread was mocking a guy with a dog profile picture who loved Nige.

Fair enough, I'm probably not exposed to that.

Yes, and neither does he get carried away with either good results or bad ones.

Great guy. Couldn't resist a quid on Bristol tonight. Love to see him put Man City out for us.
