Given the ignorance that we'd ever be at risk of going down, I reckon some of them haven't got one and we are heading for disaster. Nobody has ever been relegated with a £150-180m yearly wage bill. It's going to be a bloodbath.

The 6/7 players out of contract will save us over £500k per week. Add in other sales, especially Maddison, and you're probably looking at around £750k per week savings in wages. Obviously those players will have to be replaced, but the replacements won't be on nearly as much.

That's still a wage bill way north of £100m a year though.

Percy seems to think players who aren't out of contract, have a 35-50% relegation wage reduction clause in their contracts.

Strange thing for him to write if no truth in it. Might be the only smart thing our management has done recently!

Where has this rumour come from that we've only been doing relegation wage clauses until quite recently?

Standard practice. Staggered if we've left it out.

What I mean is clauses that enable players still under contract to leave if another team offers a certain amount of money.  Like the release clause we had for Kante, but only activated if we’re relegated.

Hadn't thought of that. Could mean we can barely field a team if everyone jumps ship on relegation release clauses.

I suspect we will see lots of outgoings, but mostly from contracts expiring and us selling, rather than relegation release clauses though.

I thought after Sunderland and Villa getting relegated this was a non-negotiable clause in contracts. Jack Rodwell almost bankrupted Sunderland when they were due to be paying him 75k a week in League 1.

Well he poor little darlings haven't had many Win bonusses this season so I would expect them to jump ship like most Rats at the end of this debacle.

I hope there is but at the same time I would not be surprised in the slightest if there is not. Complacency and Mismanagement have become the norm at LCFC now.

Basically every team in the land (even us) will have this clause in their players contracts. Goes up by the same %’s if you get promoted.

I dont really believe this if I'm honest. For a start obviously parachute payments are absurd and do cushion the fall a little.

Then Tielemans, Mendy, Hamza, Evans, Amartey, Soyuncu all out of contract. A couple of those really not to be sniffed at.

Then we quite obviously sell Maddison, Barnes, Soumare and Castagne. You're looking at over a hundred million for that lot straight away in fees and that's without considering their impact on the wage bill.

I'd also then expect Praet to finally go, think there's a reasonable chance Wilf gets a move, someone might take a chance on Ricardo at a reduced fee and I think we'd accept to get him off the wage bill. I reckon Vestergaard probably hangs around like an absolute leech still mind.

So I gotta be honest, I don't think our financial situation will be as bad as a lot of people are making out.

A lot of it depends on how we reinvest all of that. You have to hope that Glover is in his element and isn't as naive as a lot of our senior leadership and has been preparing for relegation. We should be in a good position to bully most of the EFL out of its brightest young British talent.

This is the hope I'm clinging on to as well.

There's plenty of finance there from player sales, even if they are inevitably going to be on the cheap side.

But I'm hoping Glover is already preparing targets for the Championship, or at least the club have some indication on who they might get as a manager so similar targets can be lined up.

Hold on. Is Hamza out of contract too ? Didnt we get him to sign a new one just before loaning him out to Watford ? Did we really increase his salary so Watford could enjoy him on loan ?

Very optimistic to be getting 100m for Maddison, Barnes, Soumare and Castange. Maddison is in the last year of his deal and we will be in financial trouble, we'll be lucky to get 30. Barnes 20-25 max and Castange and Soumare combined would barely scrape 15m.

He isn't he'll be coming back to us on 60k a week when we need it the least.

Another masterclass by the club.

Transfermarkt has him down as under contract until 2023. I just googled it and found a mercury article that says its 2024. It also says that Watford have an option so if he is going then at least we'd have a fee.

I guess that's on us then. It'd depend what the new manager wants to do with him, I imagine if we call him up and say "you'll be our first choice DM in the Championship playing alongside KDH" then he'd stay. If we're just offering him a squad role and Watford want to keep him and he feels valued there he'd probably go you'd think?
