Soumare, I don't know his best position as I don't watch French football, but he is not a defensive midfielder and niether is Tielemens. I don't see how Smith can think they both work together.

Imagine the fury and multiple threads on here, this stage in the season and with so much at stake if Rodgers had done this.

It may be that Tielemans has checked out of course, but I do wonder whether he’s actually playing with an injury.

He's had one foot out the door all season. His performances have been nowhere near what they can be. Yet Rodgers gave him the armband. Genius. Someone that actively wants out of the club make captain.

This is spot on in my opinion it's absolutely shocking that you give the armband to someone who obviously wants out. Sums the club up really and the mess it's in.

People complained that soumare was lazy, he seems to have tried a lot more since Smith came in.

If he isn’t up to scratch that’s down to the scouting and club.
I don’t think his application can be questioned in the past few matches.
Maybe it’s just lower expectations after seeing him walk and jog early in the season.

Showed more in the last 5 than he did all season.

What really annoys me more than anything is the leadership at board level with dealing with transfers out of the club.

You know Tielemans and Soyuncu are out of contract in Summer. Why did we not cash in on them. Even at £20m each we could then have invested it in two players who wanted to play for the club. Same with Amartey and the others, it all adds up and you can find a number of steady Prem players who would have grafted and put the effort in.

It is poor business. We've been operating at a huge loss all season as we haven't been able to shift players out to bring in others, who could be cheaper, on less wages but more hungry to win and would fight.

We've been bossed twice this season by Harrison Reed in midfield against Fulham. He's hardly Yaya Toure, Ngolo Kante, Zidane or Pirlo.

Did we receive offers on any of them?

You can't force them to leave and certainly can't force another club to sign them. Had we sold Tielemans for £10m they'd have been uproar on here.

But you can offer them out to other clubs even if it is on the cheap.

Now we've got nothing for these players. I've always been told we've been holding out for too much money for players like Tielemans, now we're left with egg on our face and we're penniless.

But who you going to play ? Wilf has been shocking . Hall is out of form and quite frankly not very good , that leaves Mendy and  Praet. Praet is so ineffectual  it’s unreal and him and Mendy in the centre would be too light weight .

Can’t help but think Soumare and Tielemans would’ve been way better had Mendy been playing behind them. He is the disciplined and intelligent pivot that Smith has ignored continually since he’s taken over. Playing those two with an attacking centrally placed Maddison is a suicidal set up.

You play Mendy as the deep lying pivot behind Tielemans and Soumare.

Yep but it still means they are both playing and OP said he didn’t want to see them play for us again this season hence my question/post

Yeh but without realistically any other choice in terms of creativity in the squad than the two of them, it’s worth us and the OP considering how they could play together more effectively. Mendy would allow that.

Didn't really require a new thread.

This sentiment applies to about 90% of the threads started in the past couple of months.

We can't persist with Youri and Soumare for these next few games or our defence will buckle under the constant pressure.  Neither do enough without the ball.

I would rather us bring in Soutter in to a back three, use wing backs, bring back Mendy to guard the back 3 and focus on getting the ball forward more quickly.

Praet and Mendy together, OK.

But explain how Mendy hasn't had a sniff recently given just how shit our midfield has been under Smith. He's been at worst solid when he's played, and at times excellent. Having one player in that midfield ticking over and doing his bit without embarrassing himself every 15 minutes would be a good basis to work from.

Pass your guess is as good as mine  quite frankly .

The next two games at least require Mendy and Ndidi both sitting in front of the back 4. Might not be aesthetically pleasing but would surely make us harder to run through. Then have KDH running around like a looney in front of them pressing with the front 3.

Too little

Too late!!

No idea why anyone would think this is a balanced midfield. It's either or for me. They seem to think Soumare is some kind of elite all-round midfielder that can do it all.

Absolute madness that we've not turned to Mendy as we so often have, only to cast him aside again.

I think he will play both in the next 2 games. Will be hoping for a point in each and try and nick a win somewhere if we can. Problem is it isolates Vardy, as Mendy only goes sideways and Ndidi doesn’t know how to kick the ball anymore. Agree will probably go for the KDH looney approach as well.

I would probably play Daka in that system under instructions to run like a **** for an hour. I think Liverpool are suspect if they are pressed, although Klopp has sorted a lot of their issues out.

Barnes Vardy and Daka as a front 3, they can all press, all have pace and KDH can join the press as he has the engine.

Ricardo and castagne have to be the fullbacks also.
