Hirst signed a new 4 year deal last summer.

Transfermarkt has it until 2025, but yeah I must have missed that.

Another master stroke by Rudkin. :appl:

Or they're just keeping Evans in negotiations until the new manager is in place so he can then decide whether he wants him or not? The others don't want to be here or should just be moved on.

It could be but as a player would you want to effectively be held in limbo by a club to decide if they want you or not when you could be talking to other clubs? I'd expect if that is what we are doing we will lose him somewhere else anyway. Not the end of the world given the wages he would command anyway.

Luton towns highest paid player probably isn't on that. Pretty sure if you were negotiating with Hamza 20k tops would be plenty that's over a million a year.

Hopefully the 2 year extension was on massively reduced terms, but would the player have taken that when he could’ve left and got a signing on fee and a decent lump per week elsewhere as he was available on a free.

Not necessarily. He was always our player and was only on loan. Not sure if there was an obligation to buy or not, but I think it's more that we want to keep someone at that level for us as opposed to Watford not wanting him.

As I recall there was an option to buy, £6 million is coming to mind but im not sure on that.

You could well be right that we see him as a squad option at this level now. Wouldnt be the most absurd decision in the world. Which would be refreshing from our lot :D

Amartey, Mendy and Perez would have made decent Championship players but they'd need to take wage cuts.

Sad to see Amartey go for his longevity with the club and his personality more than his footballing skills frankly. I remember his debut in 2015/16.

Incredible mismanagement not selling them earlier to get a fee.

Need to have offers on the table for that to happen. Don’t think we had too many.

We are good at offering players with no real transfer value long contracts. Shame the ones with any value are just allowed to walk away for free.

I thought Bertrand was also excellent in the QPR pre-season friendly. Didn’t he get Covid shortly after and disappeared after that.

played well in the pre-season matches he was involved with, was finally a player who could beat the near post with a corner, got covid, then the serious injury. people either expected him to run that off or managed to get picked when not in the names squad. weird fans at times. communication of his rehabilitation was poor though, as per usual, so wonder if rodgers simply didnt want him anyway

I'm sure we'd of got £10 million for Tielemans and £10 million for Soyuncu last summer

Our valuations were too high, or in the case of Soyuncu, the club didn’t put him for sale but he was largely exiled from the team.

I think it was on here I saw that Hamza was on 55k a week. If that's true, it's probably worse than Bertrand and Vestergaard's wages given how little he's actually played for the club during Rodgers time here.

Seems to be a misapprehension about how this stuff works. Players leaving on a free either for all sorts of reasons. It doesn't necessarily mean it was unplanned or that it cost us money.

Not suggesting there wasn't some bad management of our assets but it's not as simple as free = bad.

Also, seems to be a lot of people saying the club doesn't care about the players whilst at the same time slagging them off mercilessly. Pérez for example has never been top draw but he wasn't a sack of shit either.

I wish them all the best.

Interestingly, Liverpool have released four players as well who would have been valuable assets: Roberto Firmino, Naby Keita, James Milner and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain.

But the difference is any kind of mismanagement is far worse for us than the Big Six.

I'd love to know why Mendy never got a fair shake of the stick. From the stands he always looked the business.

I'm guessing because he's 5'3" and just not very good.

Mendy be straight off to Turkey on some big dollar deal.

He ran his contract down 2 years ago and ended up staying with us as presumably no decent wage offers came in.

Milner is about 40 and the ox is never fit lol

Firminho is 31 and Keita just didn't work out did it?

Not really comparable to getting in a position where 2 players in their mid 20s walk on frees.

Let's go and get James Milner and make him captain, surely he won't get a top 7 club? Does he want a relegation battle or a potential promotion push. Oh wow just learns Brighton will sign him.

With significant wage cuts you are right. The one i would really like to keep would be tielemans as we will still need someone with that quality if we are going to get out of the championship. The fact we get no fee back is just a kick in the teeth but you can say that for most of them. Particularly Perez as at least Tielemans gave more for his buck in his time here.

I’m a sentimental guy and Evans at times was superb for us but he really should be in that list. As is stands though it’s time for a clear out. Thanks for the memories and good luck in the future.

Fair point, no getting round it's horrible mismanagement by Rudkin.

Glad these are going.

But I don't think we have any sort of plan in place to replace them

IF we haven’t, we are in trouble because I don’t think a number of the others will want to stay eg Nacho

Crocked, mate!  Have you been away?  For six months?!

If you saw how that defense became 100 percent better since his return you would understand taking a risk on his future injuries in the championship.

I thought Evans was over, in terms of would never come back from his injuries.

As soon as I found out he’d regained fitness I said put him into the side and Smith did this. The defence has looked so much more organised since he returned. That said, we can’t rely on Evans. He’ll get injured again and will be out again.

But as a defender, he’s a different class to any of the others.
