Not necessarily. He was always our player and was only on loan. Not sure if there was an obligation to buy or not, but I think it's more that we want to keep someone at that level for us as opposed to Watford not wanting him.

The one year extension for Hamza was agreed and reported at the start of the season that’s just ended. He might still leave - it just means if he does, we’ll actually get a fee for him. Approx £6m was agreed with Watford on this basis. They wouldn’t be able to sign him until June 14th when the transfer window opens so his contract was always going to get extended.

Evans will play 15 games max and look decent but will offer zero benefit on the sidelines.

His comments recently have been shocking.

I don’t know which one were less “leadership” out of the “required commitment levels” re: Liverpool game, when I’m very confident that the Liverpool players would have worked up more of a sweat in a basic warm down session or the poorly timed “we just said goodbye” comments after relegation were confirmed.

Evans is NOT Wes Morgan, please can anyone be banned for a week when making such a silly comparison? 😜

I thought Evans was over, in terms of would never come back from his injuries.

As soon as I found out he’d regained fitness I said put him into the side and Smith did this. The defence has looked so much more organised since he returned. That said, we can’t rely on Evans. He’ll get injured again and will be out again.

But as a defender, he’s a different class to any of the others.

He was on his last bloody legs against West Ham! #past it

Col knows.

Those last two games with Evans at the back we were defensive so much better. Just can’t rely on his fitness

I expected us to offer Evans a contract.

Faes needs someone to keep him in check.

Evans is injury prone so I'd hope we're offering him a pittance.

That "Leicester will be back" post he did suggests he is on board.

Allegations of dressing room cliques, new players like Kristiansen being given the cold shoulder by certain players and the disintegration of the band of brothers, family type atmosphere of the club, some like to blame it on Seagrave, however this to me is more akin to poor captaincy and leadership, I do not for one second believe this would have been allowed to happen under Morgan or Schmichael.

I would have massive concerns and doubts about the season ahead if Evans remains as captain, the club is on its arse and desperately needs an injection of leadership and a winners mentality. For me Evans has to go.

Agree with this.

He wasn’t visible as Captain last year. I don’t recall any call to arms interviews.

Maybe that’s not his character and he leads by example, but that didn’t really seem to work either.

so accepting he will have a limited role on the grass, and is an average leader, for me you let him go (with our thanks) and find the right characters to come in to give the leadership we are wanting.

I'd put the cliques down to Brendan more than Evans. Kasper seemed to have blamed Rodgers for the toxic atmosphere if his bust up is to be believed. Evans injury record is my main concern. Although he seems to be the only leader we have.

Evans is not a leader, he’s experienced. We need a proper leader.

He’s comments in interviews this season have epitomised the passive, arrogant attitude around the club recently.

Add to the fact he’s old and injury prone then it’s a no brainer to get rid.

I agree.

He seems to me to be more of a potential coach than a leader.

A likable bloke but his recent comments and demeanour have been lukewarm at best.

I'm sure we'd of got £10 million for Tielemans and £10 million for Soyuncu last summer

...it was not in their interest to sign a contract then!!!

It was more lucrative to sign as a free agent, than to sign as a contracted player.

The only ones I am sorry to lose are Cags and Mendy. Why would they want to stay after how they have been treated? Tielemans has just ran down his contract ensuring Youri will be okay. Mendy did extend his at least.

That's not funny.

We had to play Chelsea soon after in a vital game to decide whether we could get over the line for Champions League qualification and here is the clown Amartey writing their team talk for them and making it personal.  We lost and in the same game Perez missed a sitter.  They can both sod off.

Do you know what, having slept on it and waking up this morning I’m just relieved we’re transitioning away from the squad that sent us down. Last season was miserable first whistle to last. I’m nervous but excited for the summer ahead and this is the first step. Like I said yesterday, Tielemans, Soyuncu, Mendy, Perez, Amartey, and Tete won’t be fondly missed but they go with good enough wishes.

However, to be able to say Ryan Bertrand is no longer a Leicester City player is extremely refreshing. In 2 years he made next to no positive contributions and only heightened our financial struggles.

I pulled up some basic stats to emphasise this. In 2021/2022 he made 11 appearances - 4x PL, 4x Europa, 2x League Cup, 1x Community Shield - that totalled 751 minutes of football.

In 2022/2023 he made 1 appearance for 61 minutes in the PL 2 for the u/23s so I haven’t counted that.

If his rumoured £80k per week wage is true, then we have paid him just over £11k per minute of football he has played for us in the last two seasons. Or £750k per appearance.

That’s utterly staggering. His last contribution was Christmas 2021 to miss a penalty at Anfield to dump us out of the league cup. I got called a ‘****ing Tory’ walking back to the car that night by more locals than he’s played games for us.

You just know he’s going to retire with a ‘time to hang the boots’ up post in the next few weeks too. Like he hadn’t done that a long time ago!

Had the club’s bollocks in a vice the moment he signed a 2 year deal. I’m delighted I never have to read another Sky Sports pre-match update saying he ‘remains out’ and I look forward to seeing players who, at a bare minimum, are interested in being professional footballers at the club.

Agree with all this. As a defender he's been a Rolls Royce of a defender in the past. He's abley supervised players like Maguire and Soyuncu, in fact he's the player United needed, not Maguire, so thank Jonny for upping his value to 80m!

He was also an absolute steel at the time but ... as a Captain he's a bit of a wet lettuce I'm afraid. Historically he's known to be slow back to the field after injury and we've personally witnessed that over the last 2 seasons. In our financial situation, for FFP reasons and fitness reasons, it makes absolutely no sense whatsoever to offer him a new contract. Souttar and Evans are fine for the Championship but need another fit to play centre half that is both competition or able to slot in during what's likely to be a long hard season. No room for passengers.

Yes but as a backup for the championship campaign, he would be well worth the money. we are not going to get that class of defender to come and play for us next season at that level. One season of injury doesn't mean he's finished.
