I'd add Thomas to a blue cell :dunno:

Yes I did wonder. I suppose the other blues have the combination of 'value' + 'potential desire to leave' if a move materialised.

A totally uninformed hunch that Thomas doesn't want to leave and doesn't have much value. So he'll probably sign an extension in the next 12 months.

Choudhury has signed an extension.

He has 1 year left on his contract so the excel document is correct.

This ^^^

The club has just exercised an option to extend his contract for a year. Are you assuming that they've done that with the intention of selling him for a fee this summer rather than releasing him? It's possible, I suppose, but could backfire if they can't find any buyers and he ends up sticking around for a year waiting to be released in 2024...

Do we need to sell Barnes? If Castagne and Maddison go for reasonable fees along with a little each for Praet, Vesty, etc. then we may not have to. Might be worth holding for one season (depending on wage situation/clauses) to see if he can help fire us back up. He is guaranteed goals at this level.

Id also sell Ndidi and he should fetch  enough to buy the type of CDM we could attract in the championship even with a only year left.

The didn't just do it. They did it before/as he went on loan to Watford, last year.

No. Last year they put in an option to extend for a year - they have just decided to take up that option. So they've made an active choice this summer to extend Choudhury's contract for a year. This is from the official site:

"The Club remains in discussions with captain Jonny Evans with regard to his future beyond the expiration of his current deal this month, while an option has been exercised to extend the contract of midfielder Hamza Choudhury to June 2024."

Are people seriously pining over Mendy and saying he was treated unfairly? He’s an absolute nothing player who passes the ball sideways and little else who was rightfully nowhere near the bench for most of his time here. People have gone completely overboard on him this season largely based on one good performance vs Spurs.

Paying a player like that who creates virtually nothing big wages isn’t going to get you promoted.

He was bought to play as a defensive midfielder, to offer protection to the defenders, and you do that by playing the ball sideways or by slowing down an attack by basically being in the way so the defenders have time to position themselves. Personally i'd keep him and let him do his job.

That’s how you slow down your own teams counter attacks, defenders shouldn’t need to urgently reposition themselves if you’re in possession.

You do a job as a defensive midfielder by marking space, forcing the other team to go backwards when they’re in possession or winning the ball back through interceptions and tackling. None of which the stats say Mendy is particularly great at.

He’s on a Premier League wage not a Championship one, he must be damn good as a defensive midfielder to justify keeping him to do his job and he’s never shown anything like it tbh.

Same Mendy who played 98 PL during a 7-year stay, under 4 managers all of which didn't really play him.

I think it is time for fresh blood.

I’m surprised at Perez. He should’ve been kept on last season instead of bringing in Tetê.

Brendan masterclass again that one.

I case of a player getting better when not playing for us.

Tete wasn't the answer but neither was Perez.

"X would be a good player at Championship level"

We shouldn't underestimate this league or the task ahead of us.

It'll be a hard slog of a season, and nobody who was too lightweight or slow or not at peak fitness in the Premier League last year is going to find it comfortable or easy against Championship opposition in August.

This squad was embarrassed by lower-league opposition in preseason last year, and hasn't exactly oozed Premiership qualities since.

I don't think we should release anybody that wants to be here and fight this season as their experience at the higher level will be valuable and we also have a lot of gaps to fill in the roster.

At the same time, we should be aiming to build a squad that will dominate this division and lay a solid foundation for survival after promotion - so I won't be shedding any tears over Mendy.

I think we're gonna get fresh blood, it's retaining a bit of the old blood that's a bit concerning. We'll end up having to buy a complete new midfield.

Good.

I know our defenders made way too many individual errors whether it was Timmy playing defenders onside, Faes doing his best Sunday league impression with most of his decision making etc etc.

BUT, the lack of midfield protection pretty much all season was non existent, I for one wouldn’t want many of our midfield being overrun/out fought in the Championship.

Our snobbery about “being good enough for the Championship” is nonsense….if the players don’t have the right attitude then we’re not gonna just turn teams over on a weekly basis in the Champiknship.

I didn’t realise Thomas only had a year left, I can’t see him wanting to stay if Kristiansen is first choice going forward. So that looks like another player we may need to cash in on.

What can we do with a tenner in this market?

At least we won’t lose him for nothing if he leaves next summer

I have no desire to keep Mendy but him passing sideways and little else surely makes him our most attack-minded player of the season. The rest were only passing backwards 😃

I’m not his biggest fan I admit but being young and English automatically means he goes for several million right?

Someone get on the phone to Boehly and tell him Luke is the next Ben Chilwell.
