Do 2 have to be under 21 though? I know Doyle is U21

Of the 4 from the same club, at least 2 have to be under 23. Highly unlikely we'd sign more than 1 player over the age of 23 from them anyway, that would be Steffen.

Ben Mee was good for us in his loan spell.

Crime that he's never played for England given the lack of good centre backs since the Terry, Ferdinand, Carragher, Campbell era ended.

Wow - more a feature film than an announcement!

We're upping our game. It's all done in slow motion, like the training videos.

Look at some of the dross that have played for England in the past 10 years at centre back and honestly tell me you don't think he's better than some of them.

Oakley?! I think your memory might be playing tricks on you :sweating:

Oakley left by then but add Hammond and Konchesky to the list.

You have to admire how well run Man City is as a club - it can't just be down to money, because no other academy is getting this kind of money for their graduates. You can see them doing this for years to come. I do think there should be tighter restrictions on players you can recruit to your academy though, doesn't seem fair that City can just hoover up all the top talents.

They are incredible efficient.

The way they successfully trade is massive. Passed me by that they had Pedro Porro for example on the books! Or how they sold Angus Gunn for nearly £10million!

To be fair, I'd take him over Eric Dier, Joe Gomez and Tyrone Mings - all of whom have been in the England team recently. Especially since he joined Brentford, he's had a great season there.

It's always been very fan-like to suggest a fairly decent player from one of the less fashionable clubs and cry out for their inclusion. No doubt there's been too many favoured players for years and part of our issue has been that, but most the time there is a reason these kind of players aren't picked. Dier had a superb World Cup in 2018 by the way.

No news then?   In fact it has been very quiet the last few days. I see the friendly with Posh was described on the OS as an ‘Exercise’… If we are going down the controlled information route, then surely comrade Ruskinov should have called this game a ‘special operation’ against  Posh?

GTF and Phillips were fringe players. Nuge was signed three years before promotion. KP was signed with a view to a coaching role. Of those you mentioned, all bar Oakley (who left before promotion) and Morgan were frees, so that fits in with what I was saying about us not especially investing (i.e. spending big bucks) on experience. The fees in the 1-2 years leading to promotion were saved for James, Mahrez, Drinkwater, Wood, Vardy, De Laet, Knockaert - all aged 19-25.

It's possible that we're going more for the Sven-era approach this time. Loanees and big name pedigree, to fit in with a possession-based game. It's worked for other clubs, and it may work for us, but there are some crucial differences between us and those that enjoyed success with that approach.

But we've only had two signings and, although time is marching on, we may well need 5 or 6 more. So my sneaking suspicion could well be wide of the mark. We'll see.

Bang on yet again pal

Right, I've decided, I'm standing down. Muscles have wasted away, toenails fallen off and my feet look like some random mushroom growing ona field of brown grass. I can't stand by any longer.
