a confident player takes a touch an buries that chance, time for a spell on the bench, maybe coming on late in a game will help him find form

Yeah the more I watch that replay, he had much more time and space than he maybe realised. Thing is he won the header on to Ayew and made the run in space. So knew the pass was on, just got it badly wrong

Confidence player who's out of form, but who'll come good.

He's proven he's good at this level before and personally I'm not worried about him at all, especially as we have Monga to come in.

I think the question is should he keep his starting spot over Monga given it only seems to be the latters age that's keeping Mav in the 11.  How long does he get to come good?

*Good. He'll never be Ggod.

Let's be clear, still a very good player at this level but he's extremely one dimensional. You know he's just going to try and stand you up as a defender and do a few stepovers or body shimmys. If you're patient as a defender, he's so much easier to play against

Horribly out of form - has become untrustable on the ball as well - should be absolutely smashing this level but definitely is not - shaw as I like him and want to like him more - horrible today -

looks like he is stepping over himself rather than the full back- also has zero goals in him - which considering we have no forwards is a major problem

1st half chance. Hit it firat time but mo I’ll try and play it between my legs

second half east chance. I’ll just totally mess it up

tje fact he walks round like a 50m player pisses me off

lucky to be playing at this level

Been dog shit ever since he put that post up implying him and Abdul were going to piss it this season. Needs a spell on the bench to kick him up the arse again

Forgot about that. Bit embarrassing.

I’m not defending Stephy as he was 3/10 at best and he clearly isn’t on Abdul’s level at gliding past players.

Is he suffering from the oppositions defenders knowing that they can step up 3/4 yards as there is zero threat in behind?

When I think of Stephy at his best for us, he’s running at defenders who are stretched positionally and taking on FB’s 1 on 1 when in full flow.

I don't think he's at this level. A good League one player for sure, lower championship

He proved he can do it at this level just needs some confidence

His confidence is rocked, there's still a player there at this level l, just needs to find his mojo again and quickly.

Agreed, you could see it.

Interesting how he said when enzo left that he helped him fall back in love with football. Wonder if that’s gone again … absolute stinker

I hadn't heard that before, it is interesting. You wonder if Enzo's prescribed tactical approach where every player/position's role is made very clear really helped him get the best of his natural abilities by making the decisions for him?

When he's on it he rinses defenders at this level but just clear his head isn't there. Needs good management by Martí to pull him back out of it

It feels like Marti needs to give him a hug and try and work on his confidence. He was clearly struggling.

I would rather have players that miss sitters than players that don't get on the end of chances at all.

He wasnt good over the game but in the lead up to his chance he did well with heading the ball on then making the run to get one on one with the goalie.

Agreed. Watching the game it was clear he was struggling bang out of form yet you could see he was still putting in the effort. He wasn't hiding.

Good point. Despite Ayew's strengths (he did put it on a plate for stephy), watching yesterday he was so frustrating not leading the line or stretching the defence. When he comes deeper for the ball he hasn't the vision to play it quickly or forward to find space. Everything is very laboured, often killing momentum.

Nothing to do with confidence he is just not good enough, league 1/2 level at best..

Rubbish. He was excellent the season before last.

Sorry, people who just arbitrarily chuck statements like ‘league 1/2 level’ just lose credibility for me.

It is quite clear that he has had his confident absolutely destroyed from last season and is struggling. He’s not providing now and possible needs a break out the side but to say he is not Championship level  is nonsense.

Yeah, let him start on the bench for a couple of games. If he is feeling the pressure to deliver as a starter, give him a break. He is certainly an asset when firing.

I wasn’t even annoyed by the missed chance because without his brilliant header it wouldn’t have even been a chance!

It was all the trash passes and decision making before and after that frustrate me the most.

I would say though I liked his reaction on the bench, he was frustrated, he cares, and he wasn’t enjoying Monga occupy 3 of their players at every opportunity!

Marti needs to figure out what is best.

From a distance, without knowing what is going on, I find it hard to know if he needs taking out the side or playing into form. Clearly his confidence is shot. Will being dropped help that? I don’t know. But this is where the manager earns his pounds notes (or to those other than Dyche, that would just be their wage).

He wasn’t that good in 23/24. 12 goals and 6 assists in 42 starts for the champions was a slightly below par return.

Towards the tail end of the season he completely dried up. If Monga put in that performance he’d be not ready/miles off it/needs to come off the bench etc

Play him (or sub him on) in the number 9 role more central, we are so lethargic getting the ball forward him & Fatawu usually have 2 defenders marking them by the time they receive a pass…

Despite tearing it up last time we were in this league?
