We can only hope it wasn't just one of those debuts and he's allowed to carry on that way, and of course he had the ability to carry on that way

Why are fans on this forum already declaring Enzo Maresca as some kind of attacking killjoy? The guy worked under Pep Guardiola to create teams that scored tons of goals, and managed the same thing himself when in charge of their U23 team.

 

Fatawu is a winger. Here is a move below featuring a winger from the opposite side. Does this look like a manager that has "coached the attack mindedness" out of a player? Because to me, it looks like a player busting his gut to join in with the move to try and finish. The finish is awful, but the timing of the run and the attacking intent is not.

 

 

 

Here's another move, featuring a winger on the same side Fatawu plays on. Does this look like the attack mindedness has been coached out of the player? Or does it look like a winger who has come off the touchline to attack the space that is vacated by the opposition fullback to score a goal?

 

 

 

We play a patient game and build our moves very slow and methodically. Clearly, that is extremely boring for a lot of our fans. But to say Maresca is not an attacking coach is not true. For both of these moves, look how many players get into the box to support the attack. Under Rodgers we sometimes only had two players in the box, for that McAteer one, by the end I count 6.

 

Maresca will give Fatawu structure so that when he does his thing, it makes a difference. Not have a wild lash at the ball in the 91st minute when we are 1-0 down, like he did against Hull.

Pep loves players that are excellent 1v1 dribblers, their team is full of them: Grealish, Doku, Silva, Nunes, Kovacic all excel at that and it gives you such an advantage if you have a player than can regularly beat someone in a 1v1. Enzo won’t look to coach it out of him, only teach him how to be more effective at it for the sake of team.

This. Some of our fans are clueless. Unless it's 80sc style long ball they think everybody is being coached to not attack.

It's PRSD (Post Rodgers Stress Disorder), which is totally understandable in all honesty   even go as far back as Puel in all honesty.

Enzo is doing a great job even if we lost the next tree games. It's a process that takes time. I certainly haven't been bored watching us unlike Rogers. I can see structure, and Patern to our play, Maybe some of our players are square plugs in round holes, But the players are working harder and running more with and without the Ball. That alone will turn things in our favor in a lot of games.

He will improve players immensely especially the young one.

We know the Defense isn't right, Coady will help that, We know the midfield isn't functioning right, Casadei will fix that. It's looking positive with Fatawu who will improve our wing and attacking play.  And Cannon will likely improve our Goals and Attacking play.

There's a lot of positives to take and he's only here 2 Months. That's not to say he's without fault.

The goal keeping thing for instance with 2 on the Bench is a strange one. It's the sum of the parts which count at the end of the day.

And it's clear to see we're moving in the right direction. All of this while we continue to sort out our finances.

We Fans just need to sit back and enjoy the ride as we move through the gears and gather momentum.

Onwards and Upwards we go.

Enzo has said multiple times in speaking to the media that he wants aggressive, attacking wingers because the “idea” is to create a 1v1 situation out wide where the winger is then told to attack the box to either get a shot off, get a cross in, play a cutback pass or play a slide ball to a 8 moving in the half space. This role is made for a player like Fatawu.

 

I’ve got a feeling that Yunus may end up in a Bernardo Silva type role for us (a winger moving to play inside) as I could see him playing as an 8 in this system because I can’t see him starting many games over Abdul.

I don't blame people for being worried about how these players will take on this philosophy because you are coached to run at players less. The issue is when you aren't free flowing with great, intelligent players like Man City it absolutely can become a boring sideways pass fest. If it isn't done right it's awful to watch.

 

Fortunately I think we have more than enough quality to make it work.

This has been the hallmark difference between Enzo and Rodgers for me so far, and I'm here for it.

 

Nowhere near perfect but when they're gelled, it'll be wonderful to watch.

As soon as the window closed he went to Mads on the pitch and Stolarczyk on the bench.

 

Who knows what his point was, something to do with letting the out-of-favour or wantaway players know that no way would they sully his matchday squad? Or drawing attention to the surfeit of keepers?

 

Was it a message to the players or the board? 

 

Either way I think he's made his point and we'll be with our regular 2 from now on.

But the game was done by the time AFI came on, so it's not really worth judging his cameo.

He was great, he went straight at his man and beat him, played two great balls into the area, one of which Kelechi should have scored, and my personal favourite, another pointless yellow card

 

For a player that is supposedly bad at decision-making, he is nowhere near as bad as what made out. He's doing the things asked of him and doing it well. Not just mindlessly shooting, he's playing the ball into the danger area, making the right runs and off the ball work looked good in his brief appearances so far. He's racked up two yellow cards, but that's because he's been told to press and try and win the ball back. That side of his game clearly needs work, but he's putting in a shift when he comes on.

 

He looks a real talent, and I think the fact the team is doing so well means there is a lot less pressure on Fatawu and Yunus. They can be eased in and make an impact when they are ready. I have a feeling that Maresca would start him but can't because McAteer is undroppable with his form right now. Great problems to have!
