absolutely ridiculous how he is currently playing- mom for me against west ham- not quite as good as that yesterday but still did a lot of really really good things and drove us last 20 mins as well- I actually cannot believe its the same bloke but im all in for giving credit when its due and hammering someone when they are consistently below the level- so as of now he is showing he is a damn good prem midfielder - im not sure where thats come from but it has and we should be waxing lyrical about the lad at the minute- if ruud is playing a part in that and his confidence then its a great thing for us - Ruud will absolutely 100% be looking at him with fresh eyes and wanting him signed up for longer- he absolutely looks like every penny of a £30m quid premier league midfielder at the minute- can he sustain that form- who knows- but if he does it goes a long way to keeping us up

He's got two settings.

The first is a slow, lackadaisical approach where he jogs about and doesn't impact the play.

The other is when he's charging about the pitch using his pace and strength to get after the ball and make things happen.

When he's in the first mode he's a liability but when he's on it I don't see any Premier League midfielder coping with his physicality. He's got the ability to walk all over other sides.

please can you set him to mode II permanently?

He’s actually pretty quick when he gets going.

One thing I’ve really enjoyed about his performances so far, is he is progressing through the pitch…. The lads build like a fridge, and if Ruud can tap into his confidence and maintain that, he could become the player we all thought we had signed.

I described Soumare to my West Ham mate pre match (mate has the excuse of being from a horrid part of London) as playing like someone gouching on temezepam or some other sedative but was pleasantly delighted when the 'new' Soumare turned up

There was a point not so long ago that i genuinely despised the idea of ever seeing him in a city shirt again.

But credit where it is due ive been quite impressed with recent performances.  Whether hes putting himself in the shop window or whether he genuinely wants us to do well, i can't make a case for dropping him at present.  He can be a powerful presence in midfield if he keeps this current level of motivation.

That said he cannot let his performance level slip an inch as he doesn't have the credit in the bank for any leeway , from me anyway

He's had four good performances. The rest of the time he's been worse than poor and he deemed it beneath himself to play in the Championship.

He's not got any credit in the bank and is heavily overdrawn.

Yes you are thinking how i was.  I accept there haven't been many good performances but the last couple i think have been good so i wouldn't drop him.

Point taken about the championship.

Did he ever come out and say he didn't want to play in the championship because he was better than the league?

Or is it just foxes talk hearsay? He was shipped out on loan so people just assume he thinks that?

I'm in grave danger of being a huge Soumare fan you know. The lads still got the potential to be a monster of a player. I see fee weaknesses bar having to micro manage his tracking of the opposition runners past him.

He has improved recently on that, whether it's a motivation thing and it's short term I don't know. Someone mentioned that Pogba had to be constantly instructed through a game to do certain things and maybe that's what Bouba needs. Is that feasible? If it is then do it already as the rest of him is very good.

I just think he looks better in the current system. Two proper Centre-CMs both can defend both can attack, it’s similar to the system he played in for Lille. Gets lost in a three man midfield

Perhaps he's finally settled. The club has given him leave for personal reasons on at least a couple of occasions.

Also, I've never seen him so jubilant than after that 2nd goal on Sunday.

His tackle, drive and pass at Ipswich was one of my highlights of the season. It was down our side and was breath taking in it's athleticism  and sheer brilliance

Blimey I might be turning into a fan too !

Let's be honest he is too good to play in the Championship.

I've always liked the player but just thought it was going to be on of those transfers that never work but can't explain why, and also think he was used wrong by Rodgers. Was/has never been a number 6 in a single pivot. He needs a bit of license to go. Reminds me of Mousa Dembele.

I don't think our previous midfield with Maddison and Tielemans was set up to make him look good either as all of their strengths are in possession rather than without it, or passing the ball rather than carrying it. He quite often played instead of Ndidi rather than next to him and I think that really highlighted his defensive short comings.

There was a bit in the Brighton game early on where Brighton had a player free at the far post and the player lashed a volley wide - shouldve been a goal.

The man was free for two reasons. One Justin moved inside to cover the free man in the box and the tracking from both Soumare and Ndidi meant they were in the same part of the pitch and completely lossed tracking this player.

It didnt happen again.

I think its a structure issue - and I am quietly confident that as both play more and get better at it, we will see the return of spider legs Ndidi (who has fallen off a cliff, rebuilt in a completely new position and now returning to the Big Wilf role) and Soumare.

He has shown this season something missing in his time here - application. However, he did make his debut next to fat Youri so that may have rubbed off.

I have just found out he's only 25!?!

I genuinely thought he was like 28/29 ish since he seems to have been around for ages!!  lets pray to the french footballing gods once he peaks he will be a GOAT for us. Unfortunately i dont see it being here though as likely lets his contract run out and goes elsewhere.

Contract expires June 2026. I think regardless how this turns out we should be looking to sell in the summer.  I don't think we should be renewing his contract on existing terms and we certainly shouldn't be letting him run it down if we can help it. A good season should mean he can go somewhere that might pay a half decent fee.

We have a set of defensively sound forward players now. Buonanotte, BEK, Mavididi, Fatawu and BDCR all work hard and track back well. Means he isn’t exposed as often.

He does look more motivated but there was a moment against West Ham or Brighton where he was 1 v 1 with their winger in acres of space and it was like he short circuited. Took him about 3 seconds to engage him.

He needs to play alongside Ndidi otherwise

there is just too great a defensive responsibility placed on him.

Remember that time when a player tried to tackle him while he was dribbling on the left (which led to a goal), and the other player just bounced off from him? Amazing strength and control.

He has definitely woken up. Having said that, I really do think many fans were too quick to criticise him before when he was never bad in my eyes. Remember he had Brendan and then briefly Smith - in a system where even with Barnes, Maddison, Tielemans, Evans, Soyuncu, Ricardo, Perez, Nacho, etc on the roster (let’s be honest we would love to have any of these back and they would improve us) and we still managed to play so shxt under Brendan and it was not because of Soumare.

Yeah - it was in an interview with Maresca somewhere. I'm not going to spend countless hours looking for it but it was made clear that he didn't feel he should play in the championship despite being, not one of, but THE standout garbage player and contributing to our relegation.

Speaks to the character and integrity of the man.

If we survive think one of the first things we have to do in the summer is renew if he’s still playing like this, then we can leave or centre midfield, we already have quite a shopping list to bring the squad up to being a ‘mid table’ squad, right now we have an 11 and 4 or 5 worthy back up options

I feel somebody just needs to put their arm around him and boost his confidence up.

Yes he looks very lazy and not arsed most times but there’s definitely a player in there somewhere, an absolute monster, if he can perform at a consistent basis.

Hopefully Ruud is the man to get the best out of him.

Yeah I agree. Happy to see he's turning his form around, but I'd sell him in the summer for any reasonable offer. He'd be an absolute beast in Italy.
