His stats was rubbish for his previous club Lille

What did our scouts see in him

Except they weren't rubbish.

Soumaré helped Lille win Ligue 1 that season, ahead of PSG.

But with Ndidi, Tielemans and Maddison as our midfield, plus Mendy, Choudhury and Pérez in reserve as well as KDH breaking through, did we really need to sign him?

He's in the last year of his contract, nobody's going to pay a fee for him. He'll go on loan next season and then leave for free. We seem to be specialists in that.

Almost as though we have no strategy, no player communication and managed by ****wits

I heard his stats were really good and bigger clubs were aware of him including Arsenal.
But then they watched him.

I always remember before a game v Liverpool the season we signed him Klopp came out and said we’d added quality to our squad and had a “ Good transfer window…..a very good transfer window”. He said it with such sincerity I thought there may be some truth in it. We’d added a former England left back, a Danish international CB, a CF who had scored no end of goals and top stat man from Champions Lille. Or as we know them,  Clapped out donkey Bertrand, Jannik “Can’t run or turn” Vestergaard, Patson “couldn’t hit a barn door with a banjo” Daka, and “jog about” Soumare. The most disappointing window since Rachel Riley bought some blinds.

He scored 1 goal and had 2 assists, I would say that’s pretty rubbish

Donnarumma scored zero goals and got no assists, and it a better team.

People love to dramatise. Yes he has been crap for us but shocking revelation here, sometimes it doesn’t work for a player at a certain club and then does at a new club. Who’d have thought it!

So those saving we will be stuck with him, his book value is less than £5mill. He had a good loan at Sevilla and was well thought of at Lille. There will be takers in Europe for that fee and yes, they will probably get a player who works out for them. Wages is more then issue.

He’s not that type of player. He’s essentially supposed to be a bigger version of Kante. He’s was excellent at ball recovery, and progression up the field for Lille. Not every player on the pitch’s job is to score and provide, you need some to do the dirty work and that’s what theoretically what Soumare does. Unfortunately, he just hasn’t adapted to the pace and style of English football, that’s all. We’ve seen flashes of what he is capable of, he’s powerful, with good technique and good ball recovery abilities. Problem with Soumare is he doesn’t track his runners well enough, he switches off in games and when the games gone he just gives up.

On France and Spain he flourishes, the pace of the game suits him much better and he doesn’t need to track back as much. He certainly isn’t rubbish, he’s not a sexy player, he does the dirty stuff and he can playing in Europe fairly well.

You’ve got to have tenacity and the willingness to defend on behind if you want to be a success in England in that position.

The problem this season is that our midfield has no organisation. Neither of the two (or three under cooper) knew whether to sit in front of back 4, be box to box or more attack minded. Our shape was horrendous as a result which lead to midfield being pointless. In hindsight I think that a 3 of Ndidi and Winks sitting with Soumare free to carry the ball and have less defensive responsibilities would have been more effective

He doesn’t have a footballing brain, it’s as simple as that,  the times he lets players go by him , as if he hasn’t seen them

Our defence got hammered last season and rightly so , the midfield got a way lightly and for me a lot of our troubles started with a poor midfield , losing possession, not tracking players , creating next to nothing ,playing Soumare, Ndidi and Skipp sometimes altogether absolutely baffling

It was bad enough with Ndidi and Soumare in the same team

Assuming that was the reason he was scouted and signed, otherwise…….no. But also yes.

Has the time finally come?!

EXCL: Sevilla FC has initiated contacts to bring Soumare in the final year of his contract.

'In the final year of his contract'. Does that imply loan as he runs his contract down?

I think it means he is in the final year and they're looking to get him in now.

No idea where this myth he was good at Sevilla comes from. Looks a very similar output to most of his seasons - a fair few yellow cards, zero productivity going forward, part of a generally poor and declining team. Exactly what we got here. How some people fell for him again I will never know. He's absolutely rubbish.

Inevitable that these are the next 'big' relegation in Europe. Wouldn't be surprised if it was this coming season.

Yes get in! If he needs help waddling to the airport he can let me know!

I think that's credible rumours for nearly all of the top tier of dossers leaving this summer, just need something for Vestegaard, BDR and Ajew.

He had a good season for them didn't he whilst we were in the Champ? So would make sense.

Yeah it was the season they famously almost got relegated. So Soumare's last three seasons when he's played a good chunk at the heart of the respective teams have been:

Relegated

Almost relegated
