Don't mind the signing but with Vestergaard's contract we have a lot of options there already. Would be ok if some were being offloaded. We have 5 CBs, none of which fill me with any confidence at PL level. 3
Stopharage Posted 20 June 2024 Posted 20 June 2024 What are people smoking? £10m for a fairly ordinary CB. Surely better to spend that on Greaves or Edwards. Rodon isn’t going to push on and get better, whereas those two don’t just replicate what we’ve already got. We desperately need pace in the central regardless of how far up Mads sweeps. This isn’t where we should be looking to focus when we have limited funds. 1
Wasyls Pec Deck Posted 20 June 2024 Posted 20 June 2024 Cooper and Rodon. These really are the banter years. Pure shite. 1 2
Stadt Posted 20 June 2024 Posted 20 June 2024 10m for him with a year left on his deal is too much. 3

I have similar reservations on the quality of them too at this level. A high number of average players in this position doesn't seem like a great situation to be in! 1
GingerrrFox Posted 20 June 2024 Posted 20 June 2024 No thanks, it will stagnate Ben Nelson’s development. 3

Nelson is the only one with any kind of development/sale value, and throwing him in would be suicide in the Prem. More horrendous squad management from our elite DoF. 2
Lesta2014 Posted 20 June 2024 Posted 20 June 2024 (edited) Did he play under cooper at Swansea? Would make sense but doubt we can fit him in with 5 cbs already on the books without one leaving! Edited 20 June 2024 by Lesta2014

And thanks to the pathetic P S Rules, it means we may have to look to sell Nelson.

Miquel The Work Geordie Posted 21 June 2024 Posted 21 June 2024 I'd rather we just played Nelson - safe to say this rumour isn't giving me a rod on
Dahnsouff Posted 21 June 2024 Posted 21 June 2024 So as it stands, we have Vestergaard Faes Coady Souttar Nelson Brunt? Unless one or two go, and they may, no real point in bringing in a CB. 1

Then we need a Centre back with a bit of Pace. Leaving us 5 options (even Vestergaard could get some game time, if we deploy a low block with three at the back. Cooper is pragmatic. He mixes up the formation quite frequently).

Coady will stay and his experience and the fact he seems a good egg is a bonus. Souttar.will go if anyone wants him and he wants to go. Nelson looks like a prospect. Brunt, know nothing about him. I doubt he is ready for the Prem. Defence does need strengthening. Doubts over KDH and Wilf so that needs looking at and then upfront we need at least one because Daka is not good enough, Vardy won't be able to play every game and Cannon is a bench player. I would not mind having Justin right wing back and Ricky P right side of a back 3. They could be interchangeable but there are questions marks about their durability. Both decent IMO. Lots to do to get the squad ready. 2

Fancy selling Nelson and Brunt for a combined £3m is significantly underselling Nelson, and would rather keep him - however, a financial mess means tough choices, and as Nelson features as pure profit then he has much value. (Boo to money talk) 2

Yes, lets sell a player with high prospects for the sort of fee you see at the bottom of the championship these days, and sign some championship duffer for 3x as much. Solid plan. 3

Nelson is worth more than £3 million IMO.

Solid plan. Apparently, we need profit, pure 'profit' to satisfy PSR, getting the monies in the bank before June 30th. The best way to do this is to sell academy products. (I don't want to, but that's what FFP forces clubs to do).

If you're not getting over 10m at a minimum for an academy prospect, then in our situation it's not worth selling.
