Im sure I read once that clubs have a say in who they want to play around this time.

Literally the time of year most railway works are carried out. Not an easy place to get to or back from at that time of night. Should be a distance limit over christmas

Used to be. We would of had florist. As far as possible you played your neighbours. But late 60's 70's and 80's put a stop to it all. Plus live TV would not want it either.

The police put a stop to it though as officers wanted time with family but the trouble of local derbies ment that could not happen.

Isn't this the 4th meeting in 6 years between us and Liverpool at 8pm inbetween Xmas and new year - twice on boxing day. It's ****ing shocking. No thought for the fans.

I always thought they tried to play games as local as possible, which seems to be the case if you check the fixtures for that day. There's just a couple odd ones to me such as Newcastle playing Villa. Surely we could play Villa and Newcastle play Liverpool, unless it's a policing thing.

Couldn't think of anything worse than driving to Liverpool on Boxing Day with no trains to get pumped by the most despicable club in the world

For Live TV you could bill it as a bunch of local rivalries on Tele over Christmas. Doesn't have to be all of them in one go either.

Suppose the issue you would have is one fixture is still going to end up being miles away. Probably be us going to Liverpool 😂

Police would have a massive issue with that. Christmas time and a full fixture list of rivalries/derbies? Madness.

Lol can you imagine. Police already have enough of an issue with office drones wearing Temu xmas jumpers drinking 3.5 pints of Carling at their xmas party. Can you imagine if the whole football league system was playing derbies! With everyone on holiday, unable to control the fact they've been paid early and with nothing better to do. It would be anarchy.

Maybe not the big ones then. Leicester Vs Wolves would be alright 😂

I seem to recall in our Premier league winning season and for two or three seasons thereafter, we had very few Saturday 3pm ko.

Might be my memory but that's how I remember it.
