One of the nuances of the new format is that being a first seed bears no advantage now draw-wise. Everyone draws 2 teams from each pot, regardless of which pot you're in (because UEFA want more 'big' ties in the league phase for $$$$$$$$$).

Controversial but I don't mind the new format.

 

Playing 7 clubs rather than 3 is cool for fans of clubs that aren't in that tournament all that often, and I bet on the final round of games there will be more games with something riding on them than the previous version.

Just looking at Brest's fixtures. They have Shakhtar & PSV (home), so a good chance of top 8. Real Madrid as last game which is a shame as they will need something. Barca next - if they had that as the last game, they might get something while Barca rest players.

Opening weeks have felt pretty meaningless but I'd imagine the last 3/4 game weeks will be brilliant.

I'm hoping teams like that get top 8. I'd love the clubs who wanted a super league to end up in the play offs.

I read something that said the new format is a broadcasting issue cos BBC have the exclusivity of highlights and Amazon have exclusivity of their pick as well. Therefore there’s like a maximum duration of clip they can show and nothing of the Amazon game

I know we had a brilliant run but I’d have bloody loved us to have played in this format, look at the variety of teams that Villa get to play, whether they qualify or not that’s some serious memories made and for me sure beats the 3 teams home and away format.

Was with a Villa fan last week who's been all the aways (or is going) he said he was disappointed not to get one of the big teams away.

Depends how many have already qualified. Does league position matter? 

Lots of reserve squads if not. 

 

Just feels like a series of one off friendlies to me, yes more competitive but for me it takes too long to get to the business end.

As always it’s a money grab, Celtic for instance have already surpassed their highest earnings in the competition and still have 4 games to play before any knockout stage.

I've no doubt that there are some of their fans caught up in it that didn't do anything, it would be stupid to suggest otherwise. But mobbing up and singing racists songs in public and then getting whacked for it? Like Stan says that's to be expected.

I think under the circumstances Israeli clubs shouldn't have been playing in any uefa competition, just while the unrest is ongoing. It's tad risky especially as trouble like this was likely to happen at some stage one way or another.

We would have struggled to get in the top eight I think, our fixtures in the group wasn't easy but wasn't the hardest group. Part from Club Brugge we found it hard playing away.
