I am genuinely backing Cooper and I’m never one to slag off players or managers. But Ricardo is not only our best player he’s our best player by some distance. Insane not to start him. I won’t go overboard, he may be not quite fit but he HAS to be the first name on the team sheet.

Imagine BDCR might start against the top 6 due to his defensive workrate. Don’t hate it for him to do 60 mins and then bring Mavididi on fresh against tired legs.

Jamie Vardy was not expected to be available this evening after picking up an injury in the second week of pre-season.

 

But the 37-year-old is starting and that's probably not great news for Tottenham given he has scored eight top-flight goals against them.

 

Vardy also has one of the best records for scoring in the opening round of Premier League fixtures in the competition's history with only Alan Shearer, Frank Lampard, Wayne Rooney and Mohamed Salah scoring more.
