90% of the time, this guy is honking. Let's be clear, there are obvious reasons why Palace let him go at what is considered to be a low transfer fee these days for a Premier League player.

Ayew was extremely lucky not to concede a penalty for an OBVIOUS shirt pull, any other day, that would have been given. And generally, like BDCR, is just an out-right donkey.

The other 10% clearly knows where the goal is, and that's what we need right now. Whilst we simply cannot keep clean sheets most of the time, if we can keep scoring like we are, then we just might survive. So yeah, he's still crap, but thanks for the win Jordan.

Nice to see him meaningfully contribute, albeit with a shinner but absolutely take it.

In contrast a few mins earlier there was a lovely moment when fellow shitter BDCR totally fluffed it and the ball glanced his standing foot and meant he missed the ball when he swung his other foot at it. Fine margins of when scuffers work and do not work.

Agree that giving the pull back on Vardy from Fraser but not giving the pull from Ayew must make Saints fans cry conspiracy. Would Onauchu have got to it? Not certain, but he would have competed.

I don't think Saints fans can cry too much.  The pull on Vardy was with a ball bouncing on the line, Vardy closest to it and nothing stopping him poking it over other than being pulled back.  Ayews pull on Onuachu was plain to see, but Onuachu wasn't in possession, didn't go down, it wasn't a clear goalscoring opportunity, he could arguably have contested Mads for it.  That's all.

Fofana made a much more blatant pullback on Summerville a few weeks back and that went to VAR and they didn't give it. SO if they aren't giving this:

89939687-13876223-Wesley_Fofana_right_-m-38_1726927542577.avif

89940465-13876223-image-a-37_1726927407353.avif

Then they definitely aren't giving that yesterday.

I thinking I really like the Ayew signing now, he will get stuck in to duels which in recent years we have been a very soft touch.

Interesting to read as well is a growing number of palace fans who think the loss of Ayew is bigger than the loss of Olise.  Growing complaints from them that their remaining players wont get stuck in.

Rubbish lol. I've heard that the loss of Andersen may not be as important as the loss of Ayew but bloody Olise! Olise's performances made Crystal Palace one of the best teams at the end of last season whilst Ayew was riding the bench.

Not gone too well at Selhurst Park since he left. Palace were getting some big results towards the end of last season with him in the team and they've bombed since he left. He'd probably be worth more than £3m to Palace in their current circumstances.

God someone people would genuinely rather be proven right with players like this and us losing match with Cooper than holding their hands up wouldn't they? It's such a sad read on here at times.

I'd say his signing was a gamble, wouldn't you?

Unlike Eduardo, Ayew at least has a point. He’ll generally put some effort in, help retain possession and win fouls to take the pressure off the team. I think he’s a good sub to come on late in games, but he’s not a starter.

Neither Ayew or Eduardo are great. Reading between the lines on the Crystal Palace forum they were pleased to see both go, but were thankful of past contributions from Jordan. They’re only reminiscing about JA now because they are doing so unexpectedly badly. Better a player who puts a shift in than one who goes missing even if they are technically inferior.

It’s not about being proven right I’d really love Ayew to succeed. But his goals and assists record is poor at this level and it will go two ways from here. We’ll either get relegated and be playing more at Ayew’s level or we’ll stay up and have to transition him out of the squad.

Ayew, Eduardo and BDCR are poor, uninspiring, signings - although Ayew is the best of the 3. One goal against Southampton isn’t going to change that view for many and, personally, I’m inclined to agree with them

Anderson is the other player mentioned, both him and Ayew mentioned as the grit of their team who werent afraid to get stuck in to opposition players.

The loss of Olise is on a different galaxy to Ayew and Andersen for Crystal Palace, I cant imagine any fans saying that he wasnt their biggest loss.

Andersen and Ayew you can compare but Olise is one of the best players for Bayern Munich right now and arguably one of the best in the world. It would be like us losing Okazaki and Mahrez after our title win and saying we miss Okazaki the most.

I already said it semi-jokingly but he does have the makings of a cult hero. Clearly he's technically limited and as slow as a snail in treacle, but he brings other things we've missed up top for years. His hold-up play is good, he gets stuck in, the free-kick winning is a meme at this point and, as he's shown when he actually has had a pop, he does know where the goal is. It's like having a slightly more nimble Steve Howard back in the line-up, though clearly without the habit of getting booked within a minute of coming on...we don't talk about the shirt pull. lol
Honestly, if he bags again against Forest after Saturday he can have the keys to the bloody city for all I care. Signing of the season. :pearson:

For the folks who have wanted a "plan B" up front for the past decade, he's your guy. He's not getting dumped up top on his own and having it lumped to him, that's not how target men really operate in a modern team and you''re just as likely to see him doing the holding-up job out wide which is intended to bring wingers like Abdul into the game and let them flourish. The issue with his game, which has been bleeding obvious to most of us so far this season, is that it's better against tiring legs than at the start of games when stamina exposes the lack of pace, but hopefully Cooper can see that now.

...inb4 he starts Friday and has an absolute stinker now i've said all that.

Like it or not, Ayew is a valuable player for a team that’s going to be near the bottom in possession, relying on set pieces, and probably in a tangle to stay up right to the end. He does a lot of little things like holdup play and drawing fouls, and he’s useful in training ground ploys off corners and free kicks. Not glamorous, not pretty, not the LCFC we’d all like us to be. But the goal is to survive and he can help us do that.

I think perhaps because you looking at it from a flair technical ability point of view, but teams need to be balanced, remember real madrid when they lost makelele? (hope I got his name right).

The posts from the palace fans are on footballforums website.

Don’t understand how people are still hating on this guy. Underated and overheated.

Works so unbelievably hard each game for the club, selfless player, defensively he’s top. He takes it on his chest like Zidane, carry’s It up the pitch well and doesn’t go for glory like others.

I can only remember him having two shots and they’re both screamers. Second sparking the biggest limbs since Eindhoven. I love the guy. Jordan Ayew Ole Ole

Genuinly am I the only person not seeing this mad dog workrate. He seems completely half arsed and uninterested to me.

When we signed him I thought it was a bad signing. However, at this point I was clinging on to this Okazaki type work rare that made me love him. For me I’m not seeing this at all?
