This 'fatawu raw' thing has to stop. He was pretty much quality and productive from day one... shattering the championship 'big chances created' stat in his debut season having turned up about 5 games in!

I think the Fatawu raw statement is perfectly valid. First few games he was raw but my god was he electric and you could see the potential, but he was massively over eager. If he had been sent off in his first game for us things might have panned out differently. But you could see that Enzo could manage him and those chances / contributions came. Monga only had a couple of starts pre season. Is all very exciting and crazy to think we have both Monga and Fatawu in our squads.

The fans who turn on academy graduates quickly are usually not the same ones who wanted them in the team in the first place.

Who cares if academy graduates don't live up to expectations? They never cost us a transfer fee.

Im personally completely aligned. I would go as far to say I would happily us play more of the academy and achieve lower mid table next season if it was the best development pathway for those players.

But I've had to sit at the ground with people venomously calling Barnes 'utter sh1te', KDH a one footed fraud and Kasey completely useless. Even when we saw Thomas keep Salah at bay yet again someone near me said 'yeah, but he's still league 2 at best'.  The venom our academy graduates get really annoys me. Even seeing some rumblings about Jakub not being good enough online (i personally think Jakub will be as good a keeper as Mads).  I don't know if its like this at other clubs, but its depressing.

There are too many of our fans who are quick to turn on any of our players, and it's not always a reflection of how they're performing on the pitch either.

I keep posting we need to trust our youth, especially as we seem to have a fair number of players capable of staking a claim in the first team if given the chance.

While I'm hopefully of higher than mid table and will be cross if we're not pushing promotion at end of the season, (I know you didn't say you'd be happy with mid table and get your point though), I won't be happy if we gain promotion without a foundation and plan to keep us up next season, and trusting youth will go some way to achieving this (a lot more than trusting the players who showed they weren't good enough for the Premier league last season).

We need to be careful we don't rush them in and set them up to fail, but there is no reason why, using common sense, not too long into the season players like Monga aren't showing their long term potential and playing a big part in our push for promotion.

And as fans we need to accept the lows with the highs that will follow.

I look at players like Thomas and think ... have we managed him badly? There is a fine line between giving players the experience they need to grow as professionals, and protect them from the toxicity of fans when things go bad.

But as pointed out, they cost us very little compared to a player we sign who could equally be rubbish (especially given our scouting of late).

And this league will be more forgiving than the Premier League so let's give the youth a chance, and save our money (not suggesting we don't make any signings), and not have to look over our shoulders worrying about PSR because we've spent too much on players with no sell on value and on too big wages to shift when it turns out they aren't all that after all.

Can't we just be objective?

As a direction for the club it does make business sense to give youth a chance, because they don't cost us anything, therefore it's low risk/high reward. So I want us to promote youth. Absolutely.

But when it comes to analysing each footballer, I have and always will make that analysis on merit. I don't really care if they're 'one of our own' or not.

KDH is and always was a limited footballer for the type of football we were playing at the time. That doesn't mean he didn't have his strengths, but I'd have thought that whether he was a Leicester academy graduate or a £20m signing. Looks like Chelsea agree. Meanwhile I personally always rated Barnes and thought he was fantastic for us.

To be honest, I don't think it's that people are particularly 'venomous' towards our youth players at all. As football fans generally, we are very critical creatures. I think you, and others in this thread, are just more sensitive to it when it's one of our young lads on the receiving end, to be honest. Confirmation bias, if you will.

Looked fantastic when he came on. He’s going to get plenty of minutes this season.

can see him growing game after game as he builds in confidence.

Just love him. He's so positive on the ball and always wants to beat his man. No doubt that'll get coached out of him as modern day managers don't seem to take kindly to flair

The full backs need to start playing him, Mav and Abdul into space and offer support and an overlap instead of standing still and gawping.  We need a midfielder that will actually create assists like KDH did.

They are quality player but they can’t constantly skin players all game, or can they?

Sensational cameo. His balance is unbelievable.  We're going to be a huge problem for other teams on thst left hand side.  Monga/mav vs tired full backs,  yes pls

Sensational. Read a few murmurings he wasn't ready after a quiet performance vs Fiorentina. Start him vs Huddersfield please.

He's more than ready, but I think it's important to remember he's so young.

There going to be times he needs to start and tines he needs to come on.

Really want him, Alves, Page, Nelson and Aluko to start at Huddersfield.

Be nice for him to get a goal or assist ASAP.

And, sadly, there'll be the odd game where he doesn't perform. Which is natural. Every single world class player has an off day a few times a season so Monga will be no different over the years.

We have to be patient and remember he's currently only 16!

Hope we can enjoy him for several years!

There was a moment in the second half he's stopped and put his foot on the ball and just waited for the defender to come at him. The confidence to do that as a 16yr old is massive

Needs to be managed carefully. I think a few cameo roles as a sub in League games and starting for 60 minutes or so in cup games for a couple of months is the best way of integrating him into senior football.
