It works both ways! Justin has also suffered three years of recurring injuries and had a poor pre season AND has had a poor start to the season. Ricardo is the more intelligent footballer, a better dribbler and a more positive passer. Justin is more athletic and is better in the air. Neither are fabulous tacklers. Both have pros and cons but to completely give up on Ricardo (0 minutes in the prem after we continue to ship goals on our right) is very poor man management from Cooper.

You're absolutely spot on. Like I said, when injuries and seasons of poor form at this level are concerned, I can imagine why Ricardo wouldn't be in the side, but the same could apply to Justin. And based on what little information I have (i.e. performances, knowledge of the players) I'd have lumped for Ricardo too.

But it's not hard to imagine that, in the manager's position, he's seen a bit more to suggest that Justin has the slight edge physically. Perhaps he's even bought into the manager's ethos a bit better (he did say that Cooper had been 'a breath of fresh air'). And then he's younger, so arguably more likely to get back on track at a higher level. In that way, it's not necessarily poor man management.

But yes, it's bound to raise eyebrows more and more while Justin's performances are as poor as they have been.

It’s the zero minutes in the Premier League that is particularly cutting and can only demoralise a player like Ricardo. It’s poor man management from Cooper.

It's a strange one, I fully get some managers will rate players highly than others and visa versa.... But to go from not giving Ricardo a chance (or single minute) in the prem, to then giving him the captains armband for a cup game is simply bizarre!

If Cooper alienates our best players to the point they want to leave in January, it’s all on the board.

I can accept struggling, I can even accept poor performances but to play a weak hand while it’s happening is absolutely criminal.

He was captain Vs Tranmere too

Consistent performer, and despite bad injuries has always been a top player. Can’t say the same for Ndidi, Justin who have had similar spells on the sidelines.

The captaincy feels more like Cooper is trying to earn some brownie points with him, but doesn’t see him as good enough to play against the big boys. Ricardo has lots of positives but I personally don’t see him as a captain.

Needs to be back in the side soon otherwise he’ll be off. Terrible management of a vastly experienced and talented player.

Riccardo played well in spells against Walsall. JJ has only got to 70% of his pre-serious injury best and looked better at LB in his pomp, albeit with Barnes ahead of him.

IMO if Riccardo gets a couple more games under his belt he will be a big asset in both halves of the pitch.

Riccardo, like Mavididi and Fatawu should be starting for us ahead of the likes of the new weak signings we spent millions on

No mystery - did you not see his gutless performance against Walsall.

Going in hard on your team mate is not a good look JJ, particularly not on a forum like this!

He’s not ever going to play well ever again as a flying full-back or as a wing-back. To do that in the Premier League these days you have to be extremely athletic.

He’s an inverted full-back and that’s it. While we play two DMs he won’t get in because there’s no room for that role in a side with two 6s - the space becomes too crowded.

Not sure why we are only comparing Ricardo and Justin when we can do a comparison between Justin and Kristiansen as well. Justin can play LB too. Question is is Kristiansen better than the other two?

Yes. JJ nowadays is even worse on the left than the right and showed so in the Championship, he was all over the place! Being naturally right footed he also had to cut inside and was no use whatsoever in an attacking sense. Ricardo is the better player despite reputation he wasn't much better and won't have improved with age.

Kristiansen can be a bit raw as a young lad finding his feet but has been better with Mavididi in front of him rather than when the poor Reid has been there or even Ayew.

No lol

Why spoil my far fetched conspiracy theory. He's clearly holding him back both physically and figuratively so I put 2 and 2 together and clearly got the right answer. And that is Cooper out.

Is this him saying that JJ is now holding him back? 🤔😔

Justin also turning his back on the fans, does that mean he's leaving in Jan? KDH has already left if you look as well.

Makes you think!

His legs have gone

Injuries and age finally caught up with him - especially on the Prem.

Shame but been a good servant for us

Have they?
