With his versatility surely he’s the perfect player to come on from the bench regardless of how the game is going.

 

Can be used as a good attacking sub either as full back or centre mid or defensive sub doubling up on opponents winger. 
 

Very strange he’s not been given a sniff of PL action, especially when in a number of our games we’ve had subs to spare. Really can’t understand it.

I agree that Riccy probably doesn’t have the durability to be an attacking, raiding fullback anymore, but I’d argue that while Cooper is supposedly setting us up so that the fullback on the opposite side to the traditional winger provides the width. I’m yet to really see it consistently in practice. I’d hardly say they are encouraged to overlap. There’s still definitely an eye on getting back into shape rather than over committing

 

It’s all conspiracy theories obviously, but there must be something in the fact that the 3 lynchpins in terms of playing out from the back last season all find themselves out the team for more attritional type players 

With the wing back, its more the intensity of the role that the amount of running, I would bet Riccy didn't to a lot of sprinting last season as it wasn't required for example.

 

Vestergaard is injured, even if he wasn't Okoli has come in and been superb if he was fit would you have him over either of the current starting CBs? Winks has been poor this season so far, I said to friends leaving the Everton game he could be dropped soon for Skipp, Winks wasn't good at Arsenal and was dropped for the next game I think its as simple as that, people are looking for a scandal that isn't there.

 

There are footballing reasons for the decisions that have been taken, a lot of people don't agree which is fine but the bullshit about player bust ups with the manager being made up to try and turn other fans against the manager is pathetic.

because if Cooper has had a bust up with Ricardo he wouldn't be captaining the league cup side, if he'd decided to punish Winks for a group of players coming to him he wouldn't have been in the squad at all, when managers and players have bust ups the player vanishes they don't simply get dropped to the bench

Replacing one of our three DMs with a more naturally attacking midfielder also made perfect sense on Saturday and is exactly what many people were demanding. You can argue the toss over which one of Ndidi, Skipp and Winks should miss out, but based on recent performances I suspect many folk would agree that Winks was the right choice. So dropping Winks to the bench wasn't a remotely surprising decision in the circumstances.

I would actually prefer Ricardo to others in a number of roles:

 

RB above Justin who should compete with VK for the LB role

 

DM definitely above Hamza & Soumare, but sometimes above the others depending upon the situation

 

RW above BDR, Ayew and KMc

That must be based on previous seasons performances though? If there are no issues with Ricardo’s fitness and he has not forgotten how to run or trap a ball, it is weird I agree.

I think the truth is painfully simple and depressing. Cooper doesn’t rate him but now isn’t big enough to admit he was wrong so continues to not play him.

More versatile? Are we talking about the same player that can play right back, left back, right wing back, left wing back, right wing, in the 6 and in the 8?

Why would he do that? He is damaging his only future prospects as much as ours. 
Just think he prefers JJ ‘ruggedness’ compared to Ricky.
