Need a Vards goal tonight. I think he’s only scored once against them and that was 10 years ago. Last minute winner in his (potentially) last season would be right up there for iconic moments.

“He did do great at the weekend and it’s the best he’s shown in the Premier League so far. We know he can reach that level of performance. We’d seen signs of it and we definitely see it in training. He took his opportunity. He did change the game. It’s about understanding what he did well and why he did well and then repeating it. Young players have to take opportunities. He did that. It is a step up. He’s a big part of our culture here. He’s very popular with the group.”
 

Dilemma over team selection?

“A big one. I wish it was as simple as that. Every week I get asked. Last week was Winks. I get that. The reality is you need a squad. It’s more than an 11-man game. There needs to be competition for places. If you’ve not got competition, it’s a dangerous game. It’s just the nature of the job. There will be players on the wrong side of selection that will create questions.”

“You always want more. Even when we hadn’t won, I knew we weren’t far away. We want more and there’s definitely more to give. We see a lot of good in the performances. But there’s a lot we’re pushing the guys on. They’re so open-minded to learning and that allows you to progress. There will be downs and there will be times I’m sat here after difficult moments. But we have to keep believing in our way.”

“I’ll continue to say, to win games, you have to do everything right. I’m also make it too much of an issue. It’s always the intention to start games well and we just have to do that better.”

“It’s definitely a team thing. We never go down the line of focusing on individuals. It’s something we’re aware of. We’ll face up to all the things we need to improve on.”

“You want fans to debate. But we also go through that with team selection. There’s always a question to be asked. It’s just the nature of performance. If every position is as strong as JJ and Ricardo fighting it out, we’d be in a good place and we need to embrace that.”
 

Difference in owners at Forest and Leicester?

“It’s the anniversary of the very sad moment six years ago. That’s what to discuss if we want to talk ownership. I understand the success the owners have had here because they do that through kindness, support and encouragement. We’ll be paying our respects on Sunday. “It’s a perfect game, whether it’s the first or last game of the season. These are games you want to be a part of and not fear. When it’s a night game, it feels like a bigger stage because it’s the only game that day. You can’t fear it. You have to show who you are. Friday can be a great show for that.”
 

What reception expecting from Forest fans?

“I’ve not thought about that. I did all that in the summer. It’s all about the game. This is why I’ve coached a million sessions, this is why the team fought so hard to get back into the Premier League. It’s about the game and that’s where my focus is. I don’t want to think about anything else. That’s where my mindset is.”
 

What type of game expecting?

“Both teams have got exciting players and athletic players. It could be a fast game. We want to be the dominant influence in the game. If we can play like we did in the second half against Southampton, we’ll be in a good place. But we have to be aware of their strengths.”

"I’ve spoken to him a few times because it’s an obvious thing to do and we’re part of a similar leadership thing we do. Regardless of that it comes up naturally in derby games more than others, on or off the field, the build up, natural rivalry that derby games give. It’s recognising that but how you want to perform, there’s no better time to do that than derby games. That’s always the motivation, don’t need to go screaming that in a press conference."

Who was it that pointed out about how many times Coopers says "premier league"? It's all I see now!

there’s nothing brave about filling your team with negative players whilst leaving Fatawu on the bench most of the season

Can't fault the team selection for the first time. Please let the handbrake off a bit tactically aswell!

tbf with these players on the pitch, we  should be focusing on our defensive game because going forward we will have no issues

i can see why cooper has kept the handbrake on. very much like a southgate. 

if we play the ideal attacking line up and then look shakey defensively (like england did when Carsley came in and played all the number 10s at once) then cooper will get pelters as well. 

if we play mavididi, buonanotte and fatawu they need to work their socks off to make the shape work.....
