Watching series 2 of Silo got me thinking, can you think of any books series that could make a good film or series?
I used to read, as a younger man, The Chronicles of Thomas Covenant, but realise it would be extremely controversial.

Obviously not one’s already done!

I’m amazed Netflix or others aren’t making the Discworld series.

There have been standalone works, but yes, it's rather amazing that they haven't been further adapted tbh.

On topic, the Baroque Cycle by Neal Stephenson.

Bernie Gunther (P Kerr).

Echo Bernice Gunter- great writing, very interesting character & stories.

Have read all of Cynthia Harrod-Eagles (a mouthful, and someone who I think's not well known) Inspector Slider series. Think Dalzeil & Pascoe et al.

Detective series with 2 main characters with witty interplay, good supporting characters, interesting plots, and the whole writing style is full of humour. Ideal for TV series.

For anyone who likes detective novels and hasn't heard of her I would recommend giving it a go, preferably trying to read them in order.

The dark tower. Apparently the guy who did midnight mass is signed on to do some multi series epic but I’ll believe that when I see it. It’s had so many grandiose plans to be made over the years and somehow they shat out some 90 minute abomination with idris Elba a few years ago and that’s been your lot so far. Look forward to them doing it properly one day as it’s by far my favourite literature series.

Another trainspotting spin off book, featuring everyones favourite trainspotter, Begbie,  "The Blade Artist" would make a brilliant film.

I read the Thomas Covenant books many years ago, and I've probably forgotten some of it. Why controversial? Are you referring to Covenant raping Lena?

Yeah, it’s a fundamental part of the story/character development, and such a thing would be difficult to portray for a character who is the protagonist I reckon.

Baldur's Gate. Classic fantasy.

Also surprised no one has done the Arthur Ransome Swallows and Amazons book beyond the first book.

A decent version of Uncharted with Nathan Fillion playing Nathan Drake would be nice.

But mostly, Thomas Covenant the Unbeliever.

Though that might be difficult as it starts with a leper (the hero/anti-hero) raping a teenage girl. Thomas Covenant, the hero you love to hate.

Final Fantasy 7.

Keep hoping someone will finally sort out doing Bernard Cornwell's Azincourt, given the success of The Last Kingdom. Would also like to see The Abstainer by Ian McGuire done for TV.

I'll throw a non-fiction one in too. A Harold Larwood biopic based on Duncan Hamilton's biography would be really, really good.

I have been working through Parick O'Brian's Aubrey/Maturin seies of naval conflict in the Napoleonic wars. The first book was made into a film with "Master & Commander'. Having read several more volumes, I think that there could be many sequels to it.
