Can we afford to sack him in this financial year?  I sort of feel he's going to be contrated till the end of June.

He can spend a month on the beach and keep his mouth shut.  While hopefully a new manager is in place, but not announced and organising in the background.

Wishful thinking maybe

It looks more probable than not that he's going, but the silence thus far tells us two things.

1) Contrary to press reports, his replacement is not finalised. This suggests a number of scenarios. Firstly, that the preferred candidate is currently employed elsewhere and there needs to be some negotiation. If it were an unemployed boss, talks could have already taken place with the manager directly and the choreography of incumbent in and replacement out could be made as seamless as possible - likely on the same day or within 24 hours. Secondly, that we could be waiting for two crucial financial deadlines. The first of those is the transfer of shares at the Premier League AGM on 6th June where we officially become a Championship club and compensation packages change as a result. The second is whenever the accounting date is in relation to PSR windows; this could be either May 30th or June 30th, neither of which are here yet.

2) Related to the end of the first, and that's RVN's severance package. If we have moved accounting dates to May 30th, you may hear that we have parted company on Monday. This would mean that we haven't had two severance packages in the same window with Cooper and RVN and serve to alleviate any potential difficulties. If we hear before Monday, that may suggest that our accounting period will wnd on June 30th again and that RVN is placed on gardening leave until July 1st, or that his severance package is structured over time to spread the costs in a manner similar to what happened with Potter at Chelsea. This might take some negotiating if RVN is keen to jump straight back into management as Potter's deal with Chelsea meant that he had to have a fairly sizeable wait time before taking his new job.

All of the above could mean that we hear RVN leaves and Martin is appointed on the same day at the end of this week or beginning of next, but the fact that no source close to the club is reporting RVN's imminent departure, let alone an agreement with his replacement, suggests that probably isn't the case. What I suspect is more likely that the club has an interest in someone currently in post and are negotiating with both RVN and his proposed replacement's club for permission to speak. As shown with Schalke and Muslic, we are currently entering that time for other clubs.

My hot take is that if we haven't heard definitively by this time next week, then the club want Röhl and will formally move after June 6th when we are officially a Championship club and the compensation package to Sheffield Wednesday is halved.

Remember when we left Craig Shakespeare in limbo after the 2016/17 season? Felt like we left that week's before he signed a permanent deal.

I think we would have announced the accounting period fiddle by now if we were doing it again. Last time it was announced end of April, a month in advance. My guess is there might be a legal requirement to give at least a months notice.

The club are notoriously slow though, so could still be negotiating with Martin..

What are your aims for the season?

How much transfer budget would you need?

What salary do you want?

Can I have Lucy Pinders number?

I think he will depart 1st June. So this weekend news will hit.

The lack of communication to him tells you everything.

Then I would assume contracts will have clauses in them ending 31st May in line with the financial year.

Putting the exit after this financial year will be prudent with regards FFP and maybe pay off money.

Remember radio silence to Dean Smith also. He said he didn't have a clue this time 2 years ago.

Would be great although they’ve changed their financial year end to June 30th haven’t they?

Dean Smith had a short term contract. He was potentially in the running to get the job and went through a process like everyone else. Its a different situation to where Ruud finds himself, who still has 2 years left on his contract.

We're a pathetic club. This isn't even the first time we've sat on our hands and left a manager in the dark. Between RVN and Smith, any manager with an ounce of self-respect wouldn't touch us with a 20ft bargepole.

Just really damages our prospects, both in terms of getting some certainty in place and in giving the chosen manager the time to begin to communicate with the board and line up transfer targets (embargo notwithstanding).

There’s a column in the daily mirror today about similarities that Ruud could quit here like he did at PSV.
Then the mercury has basically copied the same column and slightly changed the wording of it.

Great journalistic insight from the local paper…..

I wish they’d just get rid of him.
Ruud clearly doesn’t want to be here.

Why do you say that? Most reports suggest otherwise...

Starting to feel sorry for him now. A sort of Stockholm syndrome.

I assume he wants to be manager still otherwise he would have resigned by now? Especially with all this silence going on.

He won't leave, no pay off, he's playing the game just like the club are.

His demeanor during games, the lack of acknowledgement towards our fans, his obsession with opposition players/coaches after matches, and lack of interest in our own players after games.
Just little things like that really.

Shame he just doesn't have the self respect to quit really. He doesn't need the couple of million he's holding out for and his managerial reputation will never recover from this whether he stays or not.

To be honest the origin article is absolute garbage as well, says absolutely nothing of note.

I still think he’ll get a job in Holland and probably do relatively well. His reputation will improve after that.

To me, Mercury is nothing but clickbait; they probably have the most pop-up ads and cookies I've ever seen on a page. They have as much investigative power and insight as a blade of grass.
