Unless it's a chance of bringing Barnes back we shouldn't be chucking 30m at any player until July, definitely not KDH

Like you hint at, any new players need to be improving the 11 not just the squad depth. Has to be a centre back (even a loan for Maguire for 6 months would do) and a right back as priority. Everywhere else we aren't too terrible. Maybe a right winger if ones available too.

Lots of talk about attacking players, but we are actually scoring a decent enough amount of goals.. it's keeping them out that's a major worry ain't it

I didn't think it was possible to make our defence any slower, but that will do the trick

Surely, months in to your transfer, fighting for your place is the right attitude?

There's having a positive attitude, then there's just being realistic.

It's obvious - even six months in - he's better off looking for another club for the good of his career. He isn't going to get a look in there.

Alternatively hasn’t playing Jannik and Coady together recently suggested that speed is not everything when it comes to defence?

Completely agree on rather having Bilal and Facundo. I do think when Facundo returns in the summer if we stay up we will have a look at the option of bringing KDH back then, but personally I don't rate him as a premier league player myself. There's much better value out there.. look at Facundos loan for instance, I'd rather borrow again if we got that talent.. although it won't be him, he'll either star for them or be flogged to the highest bidder (chelsea)

I just think Brighton seemed to be very keen on him and apparently he almost went there, and they were keen in January too, so maybe they'll try one last time

Either way I absolutely wish the lad well. He had great attitude and was very good for us. He's certainly too good a player to languish on a subs bench for the next couple of years, a complete waste of a career whatever the money.

I think both are reasonable. This season, there is a euro campaign and an fa cup run to come. He is training with some top players in a club that is pushing for the title so he will get playing opportunities and could get to experience some special moments. Would make sense to have chats about his career at the end of the season. But agree i don't think he has a long term future there.

I don’t get the “we don’t need him” argument. we are a soumare injury or slip of form away from being stuck using 2 defensive midfielders. ( hamza, wilf, winks, skipp)

We need a second 8 who can offer more than just defensive work and sideways passes

We may need an 8 and if we do I'd hope he's have the use of both feet and not hold up so many attacks by having to get the ball onto his good foot or shanking the pass like KDH did on so many occasions last season, that was in The Champioship so he'd look even worse in the PL. I ws very happy when we got £30m for a monopod.

That’s genuinely what you thought of him last season?

To me that’s just recycled old criticism of him from before.  if we’d have just signed a bloke from Argentina who came in and played like kdh last season, you and everyone else on here would be screaming that we get him back.

We have a weird way of looking at our own sometimes. But maybe It appears I just rate him as a footballer much more than most on here.

It works as we saw with Huth and Morgan if you have a defensive midfielder who can wipe out everything in front like Kante did. Morgan I believe actually wasn't that slow though?

I think we move on. He moved on and sadly it does not look like it will work out for him. But am not convinced he can do the job at PL level we need. For the money we'd need to spend, hopefully better options. Good luck to the guy though.

Agree and the return of Wilf as a serious DM would give us that security.  Always figured Wes was more of a when up to speed type of quick.

Did he suddenly become two footed last season?

He was effective for us last season but that doesn’t make him a good footballer, he gave his all but so would I. Said last season that at best he was a lower half PL player, no way is he good enough for Chelsea. We made £30m on him, great business so let’s not spoil that by buying him back.

As for a weird way of looking at one of our own, I think we give them more leeway than if it was someone we’d paid for.

Move on from KDH. Had a good season when we were promoted but better players out there at a more sensible cost.

Only way I would be tempted is if we wiped out the money owed from Chelsea to get him back and then would be a squad player in my eyes

If you look at it objectively this doesn't make sense. We have 5 CMs for 2 spots as it is to start with, plus we are very short in other areas.

If you just look at the number of CMs we have, you're right - it doesn't make sense to acquire another one. However, if you consider how easily other teams get through our midfield and how many shooting chances they then create, you might come to a different conclusion.

KDH isn't the answer to that issue though.

I don't see where he fits in here this season and not when you think whatever budget we have for January is better used on defenders, wingers and possibly another striker if Edouard goes back.

That's interesting, we are virtually playing the same system on the ball under Ruud as we did under Enzo just forming it in a different way.

Enzo invert FB to DCM.

Ruud LM inverting to advance 8 and FB becoming a defacto winger.

KHD is a left footer, who could easily play LM when we don't have the ball and invert into the advanced 8 when we have the ball.

We can't be idolising the likes of Brighton who pull out the likes of Buonanotte for £5mill to add to the Caicedo's, Balebas and such only to want to overpay to bring back somebody for the squad, pretty much purely because they're homegrown with a £30mill pricetag.

I agree. But I think we have clear problems in central midfield that probably can't be resolved with the players we currently have.

That would be fantastic. But given than none of them have even made it into the first team squad yet, I don't this scenario can be relied upon....

well we had a previous manager who wouldnt even look at the U21s, while now we've got RVN who does and is looking at them in training etc

suspect hes even watched more of our U21 games than Cooper ever did

Haha yea I know we need pace but also a bit more physicality with know how would help. (Not as good as Huth was but a similar mould).  Can't see where a decent quality pacey cb comes from in January without paying over the odds
