Reminder that if we do play him as a second striker or even wide forward, this is what he's competing with here atm:

He's another Ayew in that regard.

This is what Akpom was producing last season compared with strikers. Personally I think we need a different option, someone with the ability to hold up and link play which are probably his best attributes. Personally I think he’d fit in like how Carrick used him at Boro, interchanging between the 10 and 9 positions. We’d be mad to play him out wide tbh.

We'll have more of an idea by 7pm, he's been in every Ajax squad this season.

Duran was in Villa's squad last night and yet sold today. Not sure it tells us much anymore.

What's his pressing like? I might be way off but he strikes me more of a Iheanacho type striker than a complete 9 who plays up top on his own and can lead the press, hold the ball up, attack crosses etc.

Iheanacho had parts of what was required for that role but didn't press and usually fared better with a striker alongside him. We never seem to get this mandate right.

Fair point! Little bit of plane tracking suggests nothing imminent either, unless he's come in commercial :P

Very difficult to paint that picture when looking at stats, FBref and even Wyscout don’t give you much in that regard.

I very much agree though, I view him more of an Iheanacho type, a second striker kind of player.

Looking into certain articles paint a better picture for me :)

https://www.mfc.co.uk/news/2023/february/06/chuba-akpom-talks-goals/#:~:text=“I'm over the moon,to stay hungry and ambitious.

And a few comments from Middlesbrough fans regarding his operation as a “10” https://fmttmboro.com/index.php?threads/an-akpom-style-nr-10.65551/

NO NEED TO READ THESE ARTICLES NOW RIC ;)lol

@StriderHiryu did a video on YouTube last night and from what I remember said he was pretty good at both

Seems irrelevant now as we have dropped out but yes, turning him into more of a false 9 / support striker is how Carrick catapaulted his career:

Boro signed Latteh Lah as his replacement, both were used in a very similar way.
