Jazzy_Jeff Posted 30 January 2025 Posted 30 January 2025 I can only assume that Ruud knows Vardy can’t play 90 mins every game and there will be matches that we need a better outlet. Im not expecting this guy to bang 15 goals in but I’m hoping when he does play he can gives us more at the top end to allow defence time to rest and get organised. Looks more of a presence than anyone we currently have

Think it might be a loan, but only from what I have seen on this thread. Not entirely sure. Be typical us to buy him and put him on a nice wedge, no sell on value and 30 in October. 1

ian__marshall Posted 30 January 2025 Posted 30 January 2025 Akpom's goals to games ratio is awful, surely we can do better than this. 1

adam Posted 30 January 2025 Posted 30 January 2025 Pretty depressing that this is the best we can get after a whole month of looking for players. 2

It's actually not awful - more than one in three over his career. The problem is that he's never played in a top league so we have no idea what he'll be like in the PL...

I guess one reason for this signing would be the language and culture issue isn’t as much of an issue like some foreign loans. 1
Saxondale Posted 30 January 2025 Posted 30 January 2025 There is a massive scarcity of proflific strikers. If there was a cheap, ready made option available, they would have already gone to any one of about 10 PL clubs.

Smashing the championship is harder then smashing Scotland and playing in a league of two teams becasue apart from Rangers the rest would be L1 in England , Who could we get with a high ratio at a high level ? Akpom's 2020–2023 Middlesbrough 77 (33) 2023– Ajax 42 (14) Edouard 2018–2021 Celtic 94 (57) 2021– Crystal Palace 95 (18) 2024– → Leicester City (loan) 4 (0) Daka 2017–2021 Red Bull Salzburg 82 (54) 2021– Leicester City 84 (17) Edited 30 January 2025 by jamfox

I guess it depends which stat you look at approx. 1 in 2.25 per 90, or 1 in 3.74 goals to appearances. Agree with the point about playing level, big question mark for me,especially given his stats are solely derived from lesser leagues. The fact he's 29 with no resale value, I'm not convinced he's what we need, unless we are looking to recruit for next season in the Championship, in which case it could be a decent signing as he has a decent return at that level. 1

john ridley Posted 30 January 2025 Posted 30 January 2025 We're now shopping in premier stores not M&S anymore .

Depends which seasons you focus on when it comes to Akpom. The 22/23 season at Middlesbrough and 23/24 season at Ajax, his underlying goalscoring data were some of the best in those respective leagues. For instance, he ranked 2nd for goals per90 in the Eredivisie last season. Of course it’s extremely unlikely he’ll replicate those numbers if he does join Leicester, but if he can chip in with 5+ goals for us, that could be a difference maker to us staying up. I can understand why fans would be underwhelmed, but unfortunately January is usually an underwhelming market. You look around at strikers not getting game time in the better leagues across Europe, unsurprisingly it’s not a very attractive list. Even if we went for a striker in the £5-10 million range, you’re probably looking at a pool of strikers who are probably not quite established yet.

Reminder that if we do play him as a second striker or even wide forward, this is what he's competing with here atm: 1
