I think it makes a lot of sense.

 

We won’t be looking to replace Vardy in this window - that would be in the summer.

 

So we’re looking for a stop gap striker, someone that can come in, provide something different to what we already have and contribute bits here and there until the end of the season.

 

It seems Ajax are actively looking to loan Akpom out, so availability ✅ 

 

Cost - probably fair - so ✅ 

 

Player interest - probably ✅

 

Ability - jury probably out on that.

 

But he’s playing in a major European league and performed well at Championship level… where we could find ourselves in, so it’s a deal that could also hedge on that possibility longer term.

 

Is it an exciting link… no… but it is one that has logic behind it.

I’ve got to disagree with the majority in here if this is a loan deal, Akpom has a profile that suits the way Ruud plays, he could play off a main striker with Bilal, his best season on stats is when he played as a second striker for Boro. 
 

A small loan fee is alright couple million and he could get us a few goals and assists that could be crucial.

I have a problem with his name. It sounds as if he's always bragging about having a semi or stiffy. It could cause ego problems in the dressing room.

He’s had a decent goal return 15 goals last season, and 7 goals this season so far; if he can get between 5-10 goals for us for the remainder of the campaign it’s worth it imo.

Impression I get from an Ajax forum is that he's useful as a sub. More of a shadow striker rather than a 9.

So you’d rather run with a first sub that’s scored one goal in a year or so? Or a player scoring goals for Ajax and banged in 28 a couple of seasons ago in the Championship? Struggling to see that logic.

This season is purely about scraping survival. He might not be great, but if he can get us 5-7 goals, it could be what keeps us up. He won’t be expected to do it alone, he will only have to contribute a small amount to help. He’s probably going to offer more than Edouard has. That’s all we need this season.

People are expecting quite a return in 15 games and likely not starting much  

 

5-7 goals in 15 games is not a small amount at PL level
