I can't but feel you have underutilised the tools available.

Beneath a tempestuous sky and amidst a cauldron of raw emotion, Will Alves ignited the stage with his dazzling debut for Cardiff City in an FA Cup Fourth Round clash against Stoke City—a match that defied expectation and culminated in an electrifying 3-3 deadlock after extra time.

Summoned onto the pitch in the 82nd minute to replace Anwar El Ghazi, Alves arrived like a comet blazing through the night, his presence transforming the game into a spectacle of pulsating energy. As extra time unfolded, he carved his way into the heart of Stoke’s defenses with a mesmerizing display of audacity. In a moment that could have rewritten history, Alves unleashed a thunderbolt of a shot inside the penalty area—only to see fate intervene as a deflection sent it agonizingly wide.

When the drama reached its crescendo, the match spiraled into a nerve-wracking penalty shootout. Here, Cardiff City emerged triumphant with a resounding 4-2 victory, their progress to the FA Cup Fifth Round sealed with an indomitable spirit. In that incandescent performance, Alves did more than just play; he heralded the arrival of a new era, his promise and potential shining as brightly as the floodlights on that unforgettable night.

I love the thought of some Cardiff fan typing match report into Google and ending up on here thinking wtf like it’s some creative writing contest on their match lol

Unfortunately, probably not . Caden Voice has made a few appearances for Wolves U21, but given he is only 18 he will probably have a career in football, even if not with Wolves.

‘Frightening Pace’ – Club Boss Pleased To Have Leicester City Loan Star
08/02/2025 - 19:57 GMT

Pranoy Prakash

Cardiff City boss Omer Riza has insisted that not many managers would take a chance on Leicester City loan star Will Alves, but he did as he knows the teenager’s character.

The 19-year-old winger, who signed a loan deal with the Championship side for the remainder of the season from Ruud van Nistelrooy’s team, made just one appearance for the Foxes in the Premier League this season.

Alves, who previously worked with Riza as part of the England youth set-up, reunited with the Cardiff boss when he joined the Bluebirds.

The Bluebirds boss asserted that his signing of Alves might be seen as a gamble, as he feels most managers would not attempt to sign an inexperienced player in the position Cardiff are in, but added that his side need speedy players like the Foxes’ loanee who can frighten the opposition.

He is convinced that Alves will be an impactful player for the Bluebirds, as he knows the personality of the player very well.

“We need players who have frightening pace that can scare the opposition”, the boss said at a press conference.

“Will can do that.

“He needs to be weaned in, he’s not played a lot of senior football and maybe not a lot of managers would have taken a punt on someone with his profile at the moment.

“But I’ve worked with him and know what he’s got and the character he is.

“It’s nice to give people the opportunity and hope they will repay you with energy, intensity and respect.

“I’m sure he will do that and be very impactful, he is a very exciting young player who fans will really like”, he added.

Alves, who has Portuguese heritage, has turned out for England at Under-17, Under-18 and Under-20 level.

I thought they were about to go into his breeding pedigree then and I had to check that it wasn't the Racing Post...

it's wolves, their star player has committed assault on the pitch before, so no doubt he's their best prospect.

He’s not an outstanding talent. But someone who could have a very good career for us in the second division. Ben Nelson is the top talent.

Alves is definitely an outstanding talent. He should be getting regular game time with us now rather than at Cardiff. A player who can at this early stage in his career make a real impact off the bench.

Loan best thing for him. Let’s hope he gets lots of minutes.

Highly disagree. He's very raw, was regularly struggling to beat his man against Stoke, and the glimpses of talent on display does not mean that he's ready for the PL or can add anything to our squad.

Right now, as players, all of our wingers are better than Will Alves, which is to be expected at his stage of development.

Regular competitive game time at one club in the Championship is exactly what he needs right now, and if we don't get relegated next season, there might even be an argument in the summer to send him out on loan again, depending on the next 6 months.

I don’t think BDCR or McAteer are better wingers than Alves. On paper they have goals and assists but that’s because they are older with more game time, BDCR isn’t really a traditional winger anyway and there’s doubt over whether it’s McAteer’s main role or even if he’s good enough for this level after plenty of opportunities. Let’s be honest Ayew isn’t a winger really either.

Cardiff manager said that not many Championship managers would take a risk on him in their position but you think we should in the PL?

Not as much of a risk if you see them in training everyday.

For another club, signing a player who’s home team don’t give them minutes… you have nothing to measure him against. it’s absolutely a risk for them.

Considering how dog sh*t we’ve been, it doesn’t make much sense that he hasn’t got more of a run out. Makes you question management tbh because the only reason mcateer gets games, is because a previous manager gave him a run. Why can’t ruud make a decision on his own?

For someone whos supposedly good with youth, he doesn’t seem to want to give them much of a crack.  I just can’t see how he could do worse than Ayew or BDR.

im not talking about bringing him on in a close game but when we’ve already clearly lost, why not get some minutes in them.

Yes I do think we should’ve given Alves more of an opportunity in the PL. We lack attacking creativity and pace. Alves has both.

It looks like he will get regular minutes at Cardiff as opposed to limited minutes at Leicester. I think  that the Cardiff loan is an excellent move for the lad. Good Luck to him !!

What irks me, is that it’s clear that he wasn’t going to get minutes, so why did we keep him around?

Either he’s deemed good enough and is used as a squad player or he gets a loan. The weird limbo he was in makes no sense for anyone.  We knew we were in a dog fight  nothing changed. It’s just poor oversight

He actually said, not many Championship managers fighting relegation would take a risk on player with such little experience.

I definitely know a Premier league manager who wouldn’t! He needs minutes at the end of the day, if he’s not getting them here then being elsewhere is the best place for him.
