It’s Kasper Schmeichel or Gordan Banks.

Look at the honours whilst at Leicester and you’d most likely say it could go either way, depending if you rank the World Cup as a higher accolade than the Premier League. Plus Banks finished 14th in the 1966 Balon Dor.

Shiltons best years were at the Trees (Unfortunately)

Schmeichel
1 x Championship

1 x Premier League

1 x FA Cup

1 x Charity Shield

2 x Players Player of the Season

2 x Player of the Season

3 x Fans Player of the Season

2 x PFA Team of the Year

1 x Football League Team of the Decade

Banks

1 x League Cup

1 x World Cup

3 x British Home Championships

1 x FIFA Goalkeeper of the Year

14th in Balon Dor 1966

1 x FIFA All Star Team

Shilton

1 x 2nd Division (Championship)

1 x Charity Shield

Also, worst Keepers.

Ward, Ricardo, Pressman.

Kalac was pretty horrendous, albeit he went on to play for AC Milan.

Honours doesn’t maketh the man. Shilton was one of the all time greats of World football. The difference between Shilts and Kasper is Kasper was the best in the midlands Shilton was the best in the world!

I think you could argue for all three of them to be honest!

That would be circa 1981. He was ****ing magic. He still talks fondly on his time with us.

I was born in 1970 so he was our keeper when I first saw us and was aware of the players.

He's definitely one of my all time favourite players. He played with a smile on his face and was bloody good too.

Was Ian Walker not just prone to really bad mistakes, but other than that pretty good for us?

Yeah from what I remember. Anyone remember when a fan ran onto the pitch to confront him, I think vs villa at home, and walker lamped him one

Banks save from Pele in 1970 World Cup best I’ve ever seen

That's the one I meant in my earlier post, not '66 as I stated.

A moment in English football history that is still remembered 55 years later

You have a 20/20 memory. He was a brilliant goalkeeping. Reflexes, bravery and he saved loads of penalties. My opinion is that we’ve not had anybody better since.

I remember seeing Danny Ward vs Burton Albion and thinking this guy lacks the fundamentals to be anything but a lower league goalie. Three years later and he was the reason we went down on the pitch. Iversen, Jakupovic, maybe not Hamer but we’ve had some average keepers here in his time and they should have always started above him.
His performance against wolves was one of single handedly worse performances I have ever seen by a Leicester player. That was a really sliding doors moment- I don’t thing there’s a player who cost so much in wages and fees but also damage on the pitch, in his time at Leicester.

But then weirdly he was pretty good at penalty shootouts! I think I read that he does/did a lot of pre-match training analysis on other team's takers, which is something Schmeichel didn't believe in doing.

I got a similar green replicate shirt and sewed that wonderful badge on myself as a 9 year I so loved that shirt.

Also got some Sukan gloves as well !

Kasper for me is the best for us. Absolute legend. GK when we won our two biggest trophies. Fa Cup final heroics. Made some crucial saves in the PL and Champions leagues over the years. Played his best football here. I dont actually think anyone comes close when compared to what others have done in a Leicester GK shirt.

For honourable mentions:

Tim Flowers was also very good. His injury/retirement coincided with the collapse of what was a fairly solid PL defence at the time. Again, crucial penalty saves.

Gavin Ward deserves a mention for that Tranmere play off game first leg. I think it was the little/Derby final playoff final year. However, without Ward in that first leg - we were out. John Aldridge and co were hammering our goal. Didn't quite make the step up in the PL.

Poole solid and a great shot stopper.

Keller was a solid pick.

Worst:

1- Danny Ward

2- Kevin Pressman

Best: (I just missed Shilton so didn’t see him or Banks)

1- Kasper

2- Kasey Keller

3- Wallington

4- Tim Flowers

5- Kevin Poole

Best in no particular order,  Banks, Shilton, Wallington, Keller, Flowers, Schmichel.

Mediocre,  Walker, Hermansen, Stolarcyz. Pressman.

Awful,  Ward, Douglas,

Why no mention by anybody of Ricardo I  think his name was signed and played by Swen  as he was a portuguese international  dreadful  3 of  the  4 quoted as mediocre  here are very harsh Pressman yes

If Kevin Poole had been 6ft 3 instead of 5ft 8 or something he'd have been the greatest keeper of all time

As Ron Atkinson says in the commentary of the famous playoff final ending, he was a great reaction keeper. Pulled off some fantastic saves at times, especially in that season's semi final. An important player in our history.

Loved Muggleton, Hoult (early days being the Hot Dog Kid), Fulop, and always thought Mark Bunn would stay longer on loan and flourish but I think he played less than 5 games for us.

But in my time watching City top table GK’s were Poole, Keller, Flowers, and Kasper…

Anyone who doesn't have Ward as the number 1 worst EVER GK must be on drugs or stupid.

Kirkland and Ricardo are the two worst for me. They came into the team and were immediately shit.

Ward was a decent backup/cup keeper for a decent amount of time until he was thrust into the deep end and his confidence was shot to zero. I actually think he'll go somewhere like Cardiff and be a decent EFL keeper. I wouldn't have said the same about Kirkland or Ricardo.

Kasper - by a mile - the best in my lifetime.

Anyone remember Ron Robert Zieler? Had an amazing record in Germany (most consecutive appearances or something like that), moaned about not getting in ahead of Kasper, and when he did get a game he dropped the ball into the net?

Special mention to the League 1 season - I don't think we actually had a registered goalkeeper that season, just kept loaning them in. David Stockdale, David Martin, Mark Bunn, Tony Warner?!

When I was a kid I thought Ian Andrews was great, but clearly we’ve had much better.

I honestly feel like GK is the one position we’ve continuously been treated well in. We’ve had some excellent keepers. If other positions were filled as well as GKs were,  then we’d  be a top 6 side all the time.
