Always thought Liam Moore would go on to be a decent Premier League centre back for us when watching him in the Championship

Don't think it helped him at all when the paper talk (probably fuelled by his agent) linked him to Man United and Arsenal. Everything seemed to trail off for him after that.

I always liked him & wish he stayed within the fold, would have saved us having to sign some of the dross CB's we have.

The issue for him was suffering injuries in that 1st season back in the prem & then CR coming in & Morgan & Huth were going to be his starters. At that age he needed to play, he had played 67 times for us up to then & was still learning his trade, he had a bit about him that just needed experience & he had some pace on him also often playing / filling in at RB.

Going to Reading wasn't great for him either, he became the main man there ending up as captain which then kind of kept him there through some sort of misguided loyalty whilst they went through the mess they were going through.

I think had he stayed with us he would have been a very solid Premier league CB & had he left Reading when they 1st started to get into trouble again he'd have had a better (higher profile) career.

A really nice lad also, met him a few times when he was at Reading.

Weso will always be the one. Looked so comfortable in the championship at 17 in a truly awful team. Balde absolutely ruined a very promising career.

Yes that was a devastating injury at the wrong time for him.  Such a shame.

Had high hopes for Matt Jones but sadly another player brought down to early by injuries.
also
Mark Davies didn't really have the career i thought he would go onto have after his loan spell with us.

Jack Hobbs

A few of us were so certain he’d make the England side we each had a £500 bet with another mate

The other mate forgot.

I remember when he was at Forest getting into an argument with some Forest fans on a discussion forum. They absolutely insisted that Jack Hobbs was better than Wes Morgan and would go on to have a better career

Local lad, scored an absolute belter vs Liverpool in 1980! When him and Dave Buchanan made their teenage first team debuts it was BIG news (sound familiar?)!

Went on to join the police when he retired.

He scored quite a number of belters during his time with us - I witnessed quite a few at Filbert Street, particularly during the tremendous Div 2 championship winning campaign of 1979/80. He must have had fantastic timing and touch as he was quite lightly built and wasn't very tall.

Julian Joachim should have been the next coming of Messi. One of the most naturally talented player I've seen.

Shame he didn't apply himself or reach his full potential. He was one of the few players who genuinely got fans out of their seat.

He was magical on his day.

If the coaches had got him to use his left foot he might have gone much further.

I don't know if it's been mentioned already, but the title of this thread echoes the wonder kid / wunderkind running gag from Ted Lasso perfectly 😉
