Thought I’d have a look at an old Tavares thread about what people were saying about him and a lot of it was ‘we can’t let him leave like Gyamfi’.

I had to Google, Dennis Gyamfi. Now currently fighting relegation from the Belgian top flight with Beerschot.

tbf this thread should be a warning in a way to some players thinking the grass is always greener

pretty sure Tavares would have been in and around our first team now if he hadnt have left

Had a very solid career at Championship and Premier League level. Not exactly an absolute flop like some on here.

Went to school with the guy and I didn't even think he was the best footballer in the class. Mad how these things pan out. Also the fact he's retired now makes me feel old.

Playing first team in the Portugeuse top flight for Moreinense who are mid table. He’s probably fine he’s not around here to be fair.

Julian Joachim should have been the next coming of Messi. One of the most naturally talented player I've seen.

Shame he didn't apply himself or reach his full potential. He was one of the few players who genuinely got fans out of their seat.

He was magical on his day.

Some great moments from JJ. I also remember watching the youth team a bit (Family Night Football) around the time he was breaking through, and Ian Thompson (I think) was touted as the next big thing - played for England at youth levels I seem to remember...

Joe Dodoo after that debut v Bury...barely played again for us and recently released by Solihull Moors.

Its crazy how things turn out. Wasn't a wonderkid really but had potential to have a good career you would think. Makes me think about the mentality level at the top of the game. The guy is 29yrs old, meant to be in his prime and just been re-leased from non-league.

The talent was clearly there to make nearly 100 professional appearances at in the EFL.

God yes. I remember his name very vaguely from studying mid 90s squad lists in my youth. Whatever happened to him...

Jason Peake

I can't remember Jason Peake, but I remember Andy Peake very well, who was exceptional for us under Jock Wallace in the late 70s/early 80s. He never reached the heights I expected he would after he left for Middlesbrough (I think).

Local lad, scored an absolute belter vs Liverpool in 1980! When him and Dave Buchanan made their teenage first team debuts it was BIG news (sound familiar?)!

Went on to join the police when he retired.

Big song and dance was made of Nani being his Uncle. Should have been a red flag at the time... always hated Nani, the slimy diving so-and-so. lol

Weso will always be the one. Looked so comfortable in the championship at 17 in a truly awful team. Balde absolutely ruined a very promising career.

Jack Hobbs

A few of us were so certain he’d make the England side we each had a £500 bet with another mate

The other mate forgot.

I still remember him being in tears during an interview post-match under Sousa. God that was grim.

I know he linked up with Pearson at Hull, but no idea what happened to him after that.
