Classic that Pawson finally does something reasonable and just plays on whilst the full kit w**kers in some truck somewhere do that.

In fairness to the ref he's applied the rule properly. Let the advantage be played and didn't pull Haaland up for his pull on the shirt. VAR could've just let that be it but obviously love to re referee games. Overall they've got it right but just a bit tone deaf as usual

Arse and all will still win it

Pep cant do this forever and expect to win everything:

TV gif. A cheerful man in a suit with sunglasses makes quick scraping motions over a stack of money, throwing bills into the air.

Meanwhile we have 6 points deducted and the 115 charges against the unibrow brothers FC still goes unanswered.......... thats saudi money for ya!

Utter madness. Just let it be for goodness sake. Fairly sure both sides would have preferred the original outcome too.

By the letter of the law it's correct but can we please just apply some common sense.

You would think so but then i think they kick off about the Haaland pull as they were then. If your Sunderland and he pops up and scores against you in the week your going mad! Its a shit ending but i can see why they have to do it properly. Lets be honest, the technology and laws suffocate it.

That last sentence is the main point.

VAR has no need to get involved there. It's saturated the game. Got to the point where the excitement is sapped because of needing to bring the play back.

I don't think they're allowed to

From what I can work out from the commentary relaying what VAR said Am I getting this right that the ref originally played advantage because Szoboszlai pulled Haaland shirt and disallowed the goal because Haaland fouls Szoboszlai

They disallowed it because there was a clear foul denying a goalscoring opportunity for Haaland. So that's where they have to pull it back regardless of what happens after.

Genuinely one of the best lost goals there. I burst out laughing, it was like two kids trying to catch a ball going down a hill whilst stopping the other, they both fall over and failed anyway.

I actually don't think Szoboszlai was getting there regardless of the Haaland pull on his shirt. He was far too invested in stopping Haaland getting there lol

According to the commentary relaying the VAR the ref played advantage and the ball ended up in the net, so Man city lose the goal because Haaland fouls Szoboszlai which ends the Advantage and then reverts to the original foul?

What have Newcastle got to do with it

Probably the correct call ‘technically’.

Whilst we all want to see the goal given, you have to go by the letter of the law.

Imagine if Man City lose the title by 1 goal...

By the same token, if they were to beat Arsenal to the title by a single goal that by the letter of the law should have been ruled out, but was given for the entertainment, then it opens a can of worms.

Also, Szoboszlai committed a red card offense, if you’re playing Liverpool midweek you’d be pi$$ed off if he wasn’t (correctly) sent off.

Understandable but typically chaotic!

Any common sense left in the planet was gone in 2020 onwards when people were following arrows and eating scotch eggs. If you expect the corrupted elite to apply some common sense in football rules you're just naive or too romantic.

Exactly. You can’t just award a goal which will change the goal difference or not send somebody off which will affect Liverpool’s next few matches just for entertainment purposes.

I'm sure Liverpool fans will somehow claim that the goal being disallowed cost them, that the motivation would have seen them score 3 in 30 seconds

In a sense it has as they'll now be without Szoboszlai for their next game.

This is correct. They’ve got this decision spot on.

They can’t allow the goal because Haaland clearly fouls Szobozlai. But if Szobozlai doesn’t initially foul Haaland then Haaland doesn’t make the foul on Szobozlai. No advantage gained.

I don't understand what the fuss about is with that decision late on. Just because the defender has made a foul doesn't mean Haaland can foul someone when the advantage is being played. Correct decision.
