As a 9 year old kid leading upto this match i wasnt bothered about football that much. My uncle kept trying to get me into being a die hard fan but i simply just thought football was alright. He dragged me to Wembley for this match. I knew it was important but i was more bothered about the panda pops and the kick about outside the pubs before the game.

 

Then that beautiful shin turned me into a die hard Leicester fan. The Euphoria of that goal transformed my mindset to what it is today.

 

Thank you Claridge. I would have never experienced that magical season 15/16 if it wasnt for that shin of yours

I can still remember walking up Wembley Way. 
 

I can still remember ripping up the newspaper to use as confetti.
 

I can still remember Super Stevie Claridge reverberating around the concourse before the match.

 

I can still remember spotting people I knew from school. 
 

I can still remember the slightly obstructed view from behind the stanchion. 
 

I can still remember the blue and while balloons.

 

I can still remember the people sitting around me. 
 

I can still remember time standing still as that ball was in the air.

 

I can still remember the ****ing ROAR when it went in.

 

I can still remember getting home to watch the whole thing again on VHS recorded off the telly.

 

Easily, one of the greatest days of my childhood and as a Leicester City fan.

He definitely does. Slow down the replay and you can clearly see it comes off the shin just above his boot. You can tell by the way it goes in he didn’t hit it cleanly. He gets his head over the ball and everything but it spins up.

Well… But… That could be…. The winner from Claridge IT IS! STEVIE CLARIDGE! HAS GIVEN LEICESTER! A PLACE IN THE PREMIERSHIP! And Martin O’Neill’s masterstroke, in the most unexpected way, has paid off! And the man he signed for a million pounds, has scored a goal, that’s worth a lot lot more than that. Stevie Claridge hits the back of the net, and that means that Leicester, are back in the Premiership.

He's on record saying he hit it cleanly.

And he’s also on record saying he shinned it.

I mean, it’s on the video. Look at the technique. If he hits it cleanly it goes straight at Martin. The flight of the ball doesn’t suggest a clean hit and that’s why the goalkeeper is rooted. If you slow that video down it’s obvious it comes off the bottom of his shin.

 

I’m not taking anything away from the guy but his first reaction was his most accurate one.

That was almost a replica of the Cantona goal in the cup final, the way he’s composed himself and hit it. Great strike, great timing, and as you so rightly said, what a great substitution.
