Who are these mistical migrants who will never contribute. The economically inactive migrant figure is dwarfed by those of us who were born here. Immigrants have always been and will continue to be for some time a net contributor to our economy.

The obviously economic migrants who come here illegally, are not allowed to work (legally) for years while we process their applications, who are provided with accommodation and benefits (often despite working illegally) and then end up in legal appeals which cost a fortune before eventually either being kicked out or staying - by this point they would need to reach CEO level to make a positive contribution so it doesn't really matter.

Nothing wrong with trying to stop that sort of migration while ensuring fast and affordable visa routes for those with the skills our economy needs, or fast (offshore) processing for those who have a genuine need for asylum.

Always helps when you read the actual post before you hit quote.

The English won't sort out immigration until they stop being so stupid about it. Believe it or not, I have quite a lot of experience in the "real world" beyond Tamworth and I know that if the figureheads of your cause are people like Farage and Robinson, you are truly and utterly ****ed. Good luck with that.

This is true, and we can start by not treating anyone who opposes some aspects of migration like they are racist / xenophobic.

Well of course there's are some individual migrants that will cost the country  money and I agree we need to improve the processes for getting them removed. Last year they mad up around 2% of all migrants , 96% were contributing and around 2% will contribute once they have their asylum applications approved.

Incidently removals have increased  in the first twelv months of this supposed left wing government.

The ones the ONS says cost between £250k to £400k over their time here depending on the age they arrive. So not mystical at all

Do I really need to explain this?

Have a look into the reaction, sales and change of leadership at Jaguar

Possibly not, but a comment into the state of the man giving statements in this style as the most politically powerful person in the world, with (again remarking on the anniversary of the first use of nuclear weapons) the authority to launch a unilateral nuclear strike at any time, might be welcomed, rather than merely ignoring the way he acts.

"In shock news, UK Prime Minister Kier Starmer has told the press, 'Rachel Riley... she's hot!'

"Following more controversy around Strictly Come Dancing, he was asked what he thought about Rachel Riley, to which he responded, 'who?'

"When it was further pointed out to him that she voted Labour he announced, 'oh yeah, Rachel Riley... she's hot!'

"Asked if he regularly viewed Countdown, he remarked there was no truth in the Kremlin's claims that the UK was planning to attack their shadow fleet."

Additionally, I can see why some might be compelled to use comments regarding echo chambers on here, but it is a little ironic that such comments often come from parties that cannot or choose not to see beyond the end of their own front door or their own countries border in terms of consequence.

The UK cannot hide away from the rest of the world and what they do and pretend that they're the only one of importance. Not on most matters, anyhow.

Agreed, but people say they want migrants who contribute to the economy and assimilate into society but then a few years ago voted to get rid of those exact migrants who were shown to contribute more economically and arguably assimilated better. So it's a bit boy who cried wolf now.

Saw an article (sadly didn't snapshot it) about a lot of East Mids farmers wanting to vote Reform.

That is of course their prerogative, but considering these farmers must be aware of an issue that is already hitting them hard, will only hit them harder in future and on which Reform intend to do either precisely nothing or the opposite of what's needed to help them, the phrase "turkeys voting for Christmas" comes to mind.

Absolutely not.

Not even going to argue as it just results in a ban, but if you can't understand how the current government is going to have to raise taxes in the autumn due to their own policies they set in the budget then there isn't hope.... even the guardian can't ignore it

Absolutely. I completely understand why people want lower immigration, but weirdly an awful lot of them want no immigration and their anger is directed to the actual immigrants, rather than to those who have badly managed the situation.

If you're standing in a mob, red in the face, yelling at people living on £9 a week in a hotel, you're not a concerned citizen, you're a racist.

I could live off £9 a week if I was getting free food, housing paid for, tv paid for, mobile data paid for, free visits to places etc.

You shouldn't be able to come here and get all that via our taxes, it's got to stop at some point. Those workers who used to support the country vs. those who take via taxes used to be in favour of those who support, but the numbers are going the other way now, causing the black hole we're currently facing.

What are Labour doing to help farmers? I will be absolutley amazed if theres a single farmer in England (never mind East mids) who will vote Labour in 4 years time

I realise I'm repeating myself a bit here but to a large extent people were led by Farage to vote for this very scenario
