Genuine question though, not just our ladies but why are the penalty shoot outs such low quality? Women goalkeepers are obviously smaller so practice practice practice and place it in the corner surely

Such grit from this team. Like they were under major scrunity going into this. So many obstacles for personal players and the team.

I don't mean this as a knock, but generally women footballers aren't going to be able to generate the same power that men can on their shots - so the relatively smaller goalkeepers are kind of balanced out by slower shots. 

 

Anecdotally, I feel like their shots are generally more telegraphed too, but that's something that will come as the women's game matures.

My assumption, 
 

If you watch men’s football, the amount that aren’t exactly placed in the corner is fairly high. The power they’re hit at, generally makes them go in.

 

Women, naturally can’t strike the ball as hard.

How many shootouts in the men’s game have we seen that have been shit? How many shit penalties do we see regularly on the men’s game. That shoot out was no worse than anything you’ll see at a men’s tournament on my opinion. Nothing poor about Kelly’s pen, want to show any kid how to take a penalty, that’s it, put your foot through it.

Fair play ladies. 

Probably not the best side in the competition, and were second best tonight and women's football looks incredibly even at the minute, proven by England not winning a game in 90 minutes in the knockouts and lots of others going to extra time.

 

Poor pens from Spain really given the technique they show in the game, however it highlights the difference in pressure.

I think the telegraphed point is key, so obvious which way they are going.

Kelly's pen was exactly what I hoped Williamson's would be, glad we got another chance. Was happy to get to the shootout but would have been gutted if we'd lost after they'd missed 3 kicks.

Okay so hate probably was, I just mean in terms of this “quality” keep being brought up. It’s like well done ladies but it’s not as good as the men. I’m not aiming this at you by the way, because you’ve just asked a question. But I think we need to collectively accept the women’s game and the men’s game are each unique in their own rights. There should be no need to compare, but celebrate each equally.
