Mavididi, Hermansen, Ricardo – Marti Cifuentes gives Leicester City injury update for Fiorentina

Stephy Mavididi will be part of the Leicester City squad to face Fiorentina on Sunday as manager Marti Cifuentes tells his players they must go “all in” to win their starting spot.

Mavididi missed last Friday’s double-header against Karpaty Lviv and FC Koln with a minor groin issue, but has trained this week and is fit to return for City's final pre-season outing.

Cifuentes has so far shared the minutes across his sizable squad to give everybody a chance to impress.

But with Fiorentina the dress rehearsal for the new Championship campaign, the line-up he fields at the King Power Stadium will be the frontrunners to start against Sheffield Wednesday on the opening weekend.

It’s a timely return for Mavididi, the winger doing battle with talented teen Jeremy Monga for the starting spot on the left flank.

Elsewhere, Mads Hermansen is also set to be part of the squad for the first time in pre-season having now fully recovered from groin surgery.

But with the Dane expected to be sold this summer, it may be that Jakub Stolarczyk starts in goal.

Victor Kristiansen, having missed the trip to Austria through injury, has trained this week and so may be part of the squad, but the match comes too soon for Ricardo Pereira.

Like Mavididi, he travelled to Austria but missed the double-header. A hamstring concern means he’s not expected to be involved on Sunday.

“Stephy is back and is training well,” Cifuentes said on Friday. “He felt a little bit his groin and we were just taking care of him, that he didn’t play against Koln.

“He’s been training at a good level and I expect him to be ready against Fiorentina. Ricardo most likely won’t be available.

“Mads Hermansen is feeling good and he will be part of the team.”

The match comes at the end of just Cifuentes’ second full week in charge. He delivered a message to ramp up the levels in training, and he says the players have responded.

“We shared with the players a concept that I like to share with them for the last 10 days before the competition starts: now, it’s all in,” he said.

“Because it’s coming closer and we cannot be unready. The guys took it seriously and the level of training has been really good.

“From day one they were competing to get a spot against Sheffield Wednesday. That’s one of the main reasons why I shared the minutes in my first games in Austria, to give a chance for everyone to show what they’re capable of. Today, I have more clear ideas than I had two weeks ago.”

Willing to give him a chance under each new era as there's been precious few managers who have used him properly.

His biggest strength is pressing (Ayew's worst) and it is integral part of Cifuentes style. If he starts well under Marti we may get some success, even if only short to medium term. If Cifuentes tries to use Ayew as our starting striker I think we will have teething problems as he tries to compensate for his weakness.

He does press better but he’s still crap at it. He can’t link play, can’t dribble, can’t control a football, and carries little goal threat.

Ayew can do all of the above much better.

Are they genuinely idiots? It's on YouTube but barely sold any tickets. Might as well have it at Seagrave.

Has it sold less than 700 tickets?

20 quid a ticket is too much, I'd have gone for a tenner.

Makes a family ticket 53 quid, no thanks.

Yeah likewise. I would have taken my youngest, first game and that being good timing in the summer holidays.

Greedy thinking looks to have backfired on them with the sales.

£15 for adults, £5 for under 12s.

Thats what they were aiming at and at attempt to sell some tar from the shop.

Will be interesting to see if any players are left out hinting at them leaving. Otherwise think we will go more or less full strength assuming everyone is staying for now.

Hamza - Faes - Nelson - Thomas

               Ndidi  -  Skipp

   McAteer  -  Bilal  -  Mavididi

                       Daka

Subs: Begovic / Okoli / Vestergaard / Justin / Winks / Fatawu / Alves / Monga / Ayew

It's too expensive for a friendly that will be shown on YouTube.

Cov charging £16 for a game against St Pauli which I imagine will have some sort of atmosphere (from the away fans)

Today will just be a half full stand where you can here a pint drop.
