Would of thought he’d be used more in Bilals behind the striker role when/if hes sold He does lack pace but would be clynical at this level would rather him as an impact sub for Kone though 2

Pace in behind is a large part of how you stretch a defence. One of the biggest differences between Daka and Vardy or Iheanacho playing last time out was how much Daka moved the defence around without the ball. He had and has the pace to drop right in to the midfield to be the first receiver from Hermansen or take a pass from Vestergaard (forcing their centre backs and defensive midfielders to make decisions on tracking him), then spin and go and in a few seconds be heading behind the defensive line. The verticality he can bring to our play just with mobility and work rate pulls and stretches their defence back and forth and forces them to make decisions they don't want to. Ayew holds the ball up better but he also slows it down and offers very little challenge in terms of his movement for defenders to cover. If Fatawu and Mavididi are to overlap beyond him, he's definitely the best "false 9" we currently have but that's not saying a lot. A new striker definitely should have a decent amount of pace. If a team is going to park the bus, you need all the movement you can get to force them to stretch and come out of position. 7

Mickyblueeyes Posted 5 August 2025 Posted 5 August 2025 As raw as Vards when he first came in. If not more. Absolutely should be doing this sort of deal, we’ve not done as many recently because of where we were but in doing this deal, with the lads “rawness” he might need a season or two to bed in. Vards came in (if I remember rightly) with Nugent and Wood (post Jan) covering - do we have the same support this time.

Ayew, natural finisher, Jordan "scored double figures once in my life and it was in Ligue 1 over a decade ago" Ayew?

There's a bloke near me who thinks the only important thing for a striker is pace. Loves Daka. Thought Musa was treated unfairly. Thinks Ulloa is a carthorse etc etc. Ayew has plenty of genuinely good attributes needed to be a moderately successful striker at this level. But he's slow, doesn't press, lacks a goalscoring instinct and isn't a great dribbler. He'll be absolutely perfect to bring off the bench. Someone that can look after the ball, draw fouls, bring our talented wingers into play etc. 1

Sol thewall Bamba Posted 5 August 2025 Posted 5 August 2025 Who is actually still in for him since that BBC article saying Swansea are unlikely to get him? Open goal for us surely, but I would suspect we need Ndidi out first which could be an issue given how many times he's u turned.
teblin Posted 5 August 2025 Posted 5 August 2025 Did we have any kind of sell on for KDH? Might give us some funds for this.

Confirms my thinking that he's ours if we actually want him.

For a player in league one, if we did, we would probably be in a worse state than Sheffield Wednesday………
