I read from another source that they were dropping the initial cost to 3m not dropping the cost. Just the structure they were requesting, very likely to help us with the psr concerns.

Just turned 22 with absolutely no academy upbringing which means that yes, he will be very raw, but as we saw with Vards, that also means you've probably got more room to grow that most other players at your age. Whether or not he does that is a different matter. But £3m-£5m for this type of player is a bit of steal really. If it doesn't really work it's not a huge loss but if it does, the upside is massive.

Vardy spent his entire childhood in top tier, English professional academy. 

 

They just dropped him at 18 because he was "too small."

Yeah, what I specifically was describing was Kone (so even more a rough diamond) but meant that more generally, being outside of professional footballer in and period of your formative years means that there are going to be aspects of your game with a bigger space to grow compared to those who have stayed in pro football all that time. Vardy might not have missed his formative years but he missed a big chunk of development time as that's probably why different aspects of his game continued to get better as he got older, which compensated for the areas that naturally declined.

Agree, but at the same time this is exactly the sort of gamble we should be taking.

 

If he doesn't do great, we'll probably still be able to recoup good amount of the fee and won't be on stupid wages

My thoughts exactly, he might turn out good but in my opinion the only player we need to sign is a striker, i think the squad right now is more than good enough to compete at the top, id rather us spunk whatever money we have on that position and get exactly what we want.

I'd be ok with it as a third striker - 1 main new striker, ayew and Kone if Daka leaves, but I don't see Daka leaving.

League One POTY as well, we'd be buying the best player in the league below us, given his age and rawness then I can't see much downside in that.

Bet you were thrilled the day we paid £1m English pound notes for Jamie Richard Vardy from non league Fleetwood ….this guy is a decent player, quite possibly the highest rated striker playing outside the top 2 divisions of English football, at £5m this is a deal a club like us need to make, calculated risks to try and get us back on an  upward trajectory.
