Cort and Horsfield werent inheriting the number from the clubs GOAT.

Agree numbers arent sacred but this is the total non thinking i expect from leicester.

Why not just line up with 10 players all season then? After all, who's fit to occupy a space on the pitch if it's not the GOAT?

Vardy's legacy isn't diminished by the fact we've given our centre forward the shirt number a centre forward should wear.

Hammond wore number 7, this club doesnt give a fvck

Dean Hammond was taking over the number from Ben Marshall. It’s hardly the same as Jordan Ayew taking over a genuine world class player and Leicester legend.

Absolutely no need to give the number to him at all. If you don’t want the pressure of the number to a new signing or youngster then just leave it unassigned for a year.

Thought numbers didnt matter?

The club probably should have left it alone.

Wait til a new signing and give him the 9.

Ayew has one year left, why change his number?

A number is a position on the field, not a man. Simple enough for you?

Ayew 9 is sickening from the club

It's not tho. Unless we go woke and retire the shirt. We shouldn't by the way it's not the NBA or NFL. it definitely builds a buffer.

Let’s face it. No one in the squad currently, or who we’d sign would be a fitting replacement wearing the number 9.

But unfortunately we have to move on.

Seen a few people saying “we should’ve retired the 9”. But what message does that send out to any potential signing?

What does it matter, it's only a number.

In the good old days teams wore nos, 2 to 11 in every game. So if, for example, Frank Worthington or Derek Dougan ( 2 of our greatest ever centre-forwards ) were injured then somebody else wore the no.9. I don't recall  being bothered that somebody else had the shirt of these legends, just gutted that I wasn't getting to see my heroes & praying that they would be fit for our  next game

9 could have been left vacant for a year or two. Not retired but gives it a bit of time.

Another small example here of how the club don’t make it difficult enough for unwanted players to stay. Wout Faes should have been given something like 53 as a number and re-allocate his 3 to someone more deserving.

In the same way we take these guys on tour and keep them in first team training at the lovely Seagrave, letting them keep their preferred numbers is another small missed opportunity to make life a little more uncomfortable so that they might get on the phone to their agent and say “get me out of here asap”.

Could not agree more. I think retiring the number would have been ridiculous, but at least make it a number you have to earn, given our greatest ever player wore it barely a few months ago. Leaving it free for a year would have been a really nice, respectful approach I think. And honestly, would probably work really well as a story the club can "sell" or market to fans. Want a number 9 on the back of your shirt? This season, you can't get a name with it, player or fan.

Anyway, I'm going to be over in the corner huffing copium that this is all Ayew trying to take the pressure off whomever comes in as a new striker or something. He's part of the leadership group now after all.

Lets get one thing clear.

If you're not moving forward you're standing still and if you're standing still you're moving backwards.

Capisce?

Leicester 4 Sheff Weds 0

Ayew to score.

So the club are going to market this ‘storyline’ with something they can’t even sell? What a ****ing stupid idea
