To clarify then presumably he came from an offside position and touched the ball in his own half.

Is that where the free kick should be taken from then? I’m under the impression it’s where he was actually offside when the ball was kicked…. Bonkers

4. Offences and sanctions

If an offside offence occurs, the referee awards an indirect free kick where the offence occurred, including if it is in the player’s own half of the field of play.

the ref was perfectly correct. Law changed a few years ago

Well I’ll be damned

Shame commentators don’t know laws too. They were bemused when it happened today. I would think their employers would expect them to keep up with law changes when they are made.

that being said officials were poor today

Cant forsee how that challenge meets the excessive force bar personally. The height of the challenge was that expected of a sliding challenge, at no point was contact made any higher then the top of the foot/bottom the ankle. Reckless for me and a yellow due to the speed in which he went into the challenge, but certainly not a red.

If 7 of their blokes hadn't come charging at the referee then I'm not sure he sends him off. When I did my refereeing course, our tutor who now refs in the National League said player reaction can sometimes be a big giveaway in how bad a challenge was, and feel Oxford players sold it to be a leg breaker which conned the ref into showing a red.

I hate it about the game, but we're not street wise with these sorts of things. Okoli got a forearm to the chops first half, none of our lot made a song and dance of it so the ref turned a blind eye, multiple times in the game if we were a bit more savvy would have got better decisions. Think the ref only started giving us a decision after he booked big Vesty who then went on to berate him for the next 10 minutes, that's what Hamza should be doing as captain.

To be fair, no one would’ve seen that and it certainly wasn’t worthy of a red.

Ramsey’s challenge was no worse than that of Ricardo’s against Birmingham. I think everyone is pretty much in agreement that oxfords players helped the ref make that decision.

Can go either way same as Ricardo’s vs Birmingham so I’m not surprised it was a red. Ref was terrible though and ruined the game by blowing up at every opportunity.

Straight Red my fuching Ar5E the ref fell for all the theatrical rolling around and The Ayew offside where he gave it in our half was fuching ridiculously hilariously incompetent, his performance today all throughout was enough to give a score of minus 1m I don’t know who audits these officials performance but it must be Mickey Mouse PGMOL not fit for purpose !!

Bloke I play golf and have a beer with was a League 1-2 ref and Assistant Ref in the Champ. Always said he’d put his head down after a challenge to avoid the reactions or injury. Cards shown purely on the challenge not the result of it.

The off side decision was one of the few he got right

The offence only happens when Ayew touches ball or attempts to. Therefore free kick in our half.

I understand what you are saying but don’t agree, the offence is where he is offside, not where he touches the ball. It would be like a player being fouled, ref allowing advantage to then give the free kick but 15 yards further up the pitch because that is when the player lost the advantage. It’s a bollock of a rule.

I agree, i understand the rule but i don't agree with how you can run towards your own goal and be 15 yards inside your own half and still commit an offside offense, offside was invented to stop an attacking player gaining an advantage, what advantage is the attacker getting running towards his own goal?

Every Ref this season has been shocking, they usually can't even work out who's throw or corner it is.

This ref has been one of the worst and not just have we had dubious free kicks against us, we've been given some too
